Help me id this song...

I’ve googled but all that comes up is Nirvana and the song is definately not their sound.

The song is up beat. Sounds very much like Barenaked Ladies. Even the voice. The music is their sound as well where the guitar is accompanied by an accordian. The lyrics that I do remember: “I always knew it would come to this…”

Anybody? Anyone?

Blink 182 “If I Could”?

I guess it’s possible but I can’t find it on any of the blink 182 albums.

it appears this is a cover version of Nirvana… by your description, the first band that comes to mind is They Might Be Giants, but I cannot find any validation that they covered the song.

Nirvana: You Know You’re Right

Probably a Weird Al Yankovic cover.

Thanks for trying folks but nope… none of the above. :frowning:

I always knew it would come to this and I…

I want you to know,
That everyone has to face down their demons
Maybe today
We can put the past away

Wish you would step back from that ledge my friend
We could cut ties with all the lies that you’ve been living in
And, if you do not want to see me again
I would understand…
That’s Jumper by Third Eye Blind

Oops, I missed the mention of an accordion. I don’t think there’s any accordion in Jumper.

I think it’s Ri :: gunshot ::

Yeah, the existence of an accordian puts They Might Be Giants or Weird Al Yankovic pretty far out in front.

Tell us, is the accordian featured prominently?
Did you hear it on the radio? Playing in a store? At someone’s house?
Does it sound new (90s up to current) or older?

This might help narrow it down. Not a lot of accordians out there.

The Decemberists use accordions too. That lyric doesn’t ring a bell, though.

Counting Crows is another band that uses accordions, but I can’t think of a song with that lyric. Then again, I’m certainly no Counting Crows expert.

That’s the song I was thinking of too.

Third eye blind is not it. Not a fan of that song actually… took me an hour to get it out of my head… thanks a lot! :stuck_out_tongue:
The accordion is played counterpoint to the guitar. It’s a fast paces song. Very up beat and not whiny in the least. It’s tongue in cheek in a very new punk fashion not unlike The Killers. The vocals really remind me of the Barenaked Ladies.

I heard it in one of my spin classes at the gym. I asked the instructor if it was BN Ladies and she said yes but I’m starting to think she had no idea and didn’t want to cop to the fact. Tart.

Thanks all. Keep trying and I’ll post if/when I find out myself.

Well, the Arcade Fire is another band that uses accordians occassionally, and does have a Killer-like aesthetic to their sound. But your lyrics don’t rings a bell.

Dude. It’s obviously Nirvana’s You Know You’re Right. There were a lot of early bootlegged versions of the song going around Seattle in the early 90s, and Courtney has begun releasing them to augment her income…sort of a Yoko trick. Cobain started out on the accordion, it’s the only instrument supported by the Aberdeen, WA music program. When he was a kid he used to play in logging camps for pancakes, coffee and heroin.

It wasn’t until he ditched the accordion and learned to smash guitars that Nirvana gained widespread popularity. Oath, dude.

Is it Straw Hat and Old Hank - by Barenaked Ladies, off Born on a Pirate Ship? Listen to the Amazon sample here

There’s another, more upbeat version on the live album Rock Spectacle, Amazon Sample Here it features an accordian-ish sound and the lyrics “I know it was meant to be this way …”

Maybe not, but it’s been stuck in my head all day now …
