Help me identify these bizarre egg-like objects

I was cutting some molding in the bathroom, and a pile of these unusual egg-like objects spilled out from behind the molding. They look like some sort of insect eggs (or feces, perhaps), but they seem to be rock-like. There was no evidence of any live insects. The objects are pretty small - I have a ruler in the photos indicating tenths of an inch. The sawdust in the photo is from my cutting.
Could this be some sort of bug repellant (the house was built nearly 40 years ago)?

Any ideas?

It’s some type of insulation, I think I’ve seen that before.

Really? They’re very tiny - I’ve never seen insulation that small.

I’m pretty sure it’s called blown-bead insulation.
