I’m writing a paper on the movie 8 Women. In the opening credits, each woman is associated with a flower. I would like to identify the types of flowers, so that later I can research them and see why each flower was assigned to each actress.
The movie site is located here, and from there you can open up another page that shows the flowers. (It should be laid out like the floor plan to a house, with each flower in a room.)
If someone could please help me identify these flowers, I would be eternally grateful!
P.S. I already identified the daisy associated with Ludivine Sagnier, the sunflower with Firmine Richard, and the rose with Fanny Ardant.
The one for Danielle Darrieux is a pansy. And Emmanuelle Beart is an orchid. Don’t know the others.
Starting with the daisy, and going clockwise: Daisy; sunflower; buds of some sort(?); orchid; pansy; rose; orchid; rose or perhaps hollyhock.
Wish the pictures had better definition, or were a bit bigger. There is a lot of lore out there on the meaning of flowers, some of it contradictory. It’ll be interesting to see how they connect to each actress/character. Please post results.
Virginie Ledoyen looks very much like a paeony
Catherine Deneuve is also an orchid
Isabelle Huppert’s ‘flower’ doesn’t look like a flower at all, more like a beech nut or unopened poppy buds (athough the stem would be wrong for this), but the picture is rather poor.
The buds are rosebuds, I believe – and the flower at 11:00 also looks like a peony to me. I agree with quiltguy on the others.
Starting at the top going clockwise:
daisy
sunflower
lipstick plant - bixa orellana pods (there are no calyxes and the “buds” don’t look smooth, they look fuzzy)
Phalenopsis orchid
pansy
rose
either a dendrobium orchid or a cymbidium. I strongly think it’s a dendrobium.
