At work we listen to a radio station with no DJs, so I never hear title/artist announced. I hear this song almost every day and I really like it, but have no idea what it is. Here’s my ambiguous description.
It sounds almost like Queen, but I know it’s not Queen. The guy is singing normally, but when he gets to the chorus his voice raises about 2 octaves as he sings “I could be happy, I could be happy, I could be (something that sounds like) anything that you need”.
The radio is too quiet to make out any other lyrics with any real clarity.
Unfortunately not… they call it “pirate radio”, and we listen to it since it’s got a wide variety of stuff. Right now Jack Johnson is on. The last song was Gordon Lightfoot. I would say that it’s got more 90s and recent stuff, but there is a smattering of 70s in there.
No, I don’t think that’s it.
I think the key to the mystery is how his voice totally changes when he breaks into “I could be happy, I could be happy”… he goes from singing normally to singing like a helium-filled chipmunk. It’s really unique.
And, of course, I was totally wrong about “I could be happy”. I guess in that high-pitched, raised-octave voice “I could be hurtful, I could be purple” sounded like “happy” to me. Ah well.
