Help me make a mix for my mom!

My mom asked me the other night if I could burn a cd for her with “MacArthur Park” and “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins” on it. It seems to me that it would be more worthwhile and fun to put more than two songs on it. Shatner’s “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” is going on there, and she’s mentioned liking Kiss, so I’m throwing “Beth” in just for the heck of it. Can you help me with some other weird songs (preferably of the seventies)?

Dean Friedman - Lucky Stars. A1 Hilarious
Alessi - Oh Lori
David Castle - Ten to Eight
Fox - S-s-s-single bed

should all put a smile on her face:D

My Wife, by The Who.

I don’t know if this song would fit on your mix or not, but the lyrics are quite funny.

Throw on the following…not necessarily weird, but a little different, and cool:

“The Streak” - Ray Stevens
“Cover of the rolling stone” - The Guess Who
“Clap for the wolfman” - Guess Who
“Mr. Jaws” - Dickie Goodman
“Smokin’ in the boys room” - Brownsville Station
“Dead Skunk” - Loudon Wainwright III
“Chevy Van” - Sammy Johns
“They’re coming to take me away” - Napoleon XIV

Now, if you want some weird, and bad stuff, throw these on:

“Knock Three Times” Tony Orlando & Dawn
“Welcome Back” John Sebastion
“I Write The Songs” Barry Manilow
“Muskrat Love” Captain and Tennille
“You’re Having My Baby” Paul Anka
“MacArthur Park” Donna Summer

Uh, “Cover of the Rolling Stone” is Dr. Hook, not the Guess Who.

“Boobs a Lot” by the Holy Modal Rounders. Rockin’ good song. Clean, actually.
“Shopping Mall”/“Singing in the Bathtub” by R. Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders.
“King Tut” by Steve Martin.
“Don’t Eat the Yellow Snow” by Frank Zappa.
“Time Warp” from the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
“I Hate Banks”/“A-Mazin’ Bigfoot Diet” by Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper.
“If You’re a Viper” by Jim Kweskin’s Jug Band.

If you’re going to do Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds by Shatner, you simply have to include Mr. Tambourine Man–it’s classic!

“Star Trekin” from one of Dr. Demento’s compilations
“Popcorn” don’t know the group, it’s an instrumental
“Tiptoe Thru the Tulips” “The Viper” “Ever Since You Told Me That You Loved Me (I’m a nut)” “Livin In The Sunlight, Lovin In The Moonlight” by Tiny Tim
“Fish Heads” by a group called Barnes and Barnes on a Dr. Demento Compilation (Bill Mumy was part of that group incognito)
“Earache My Eye” by Cheech and Chong
“The Banana Boat Song” by Harry Belafonte
“Atomic Dog” by George Clinton and Parliment
“The Sun Is a Mass of Incandescant Gas” by They Might Be Giants

“Purple People Eater” Rhino Records compilation
“The Witch Doctor” Rhino Records compilation
“They’re Coming to Take Me Away” Rhino Records compilation/Dr. Demento compilation
“My Boomerang Won’t Come Back” Rhino Records compilation
Those four songs were on a Rhino Records compilation which my big brother had on VINYL. I don’t remember the album title though, but I bet it would be on their site.

Have you tried to find songs from “Schoolhouse Rocks”? There were some cool ones on that Saturday morning series, by ABC if I recall correctly.

Weird Al Yankovic has some good ones too. They are too numerous to name though. One of Weird Al’s sites

Hope your mom likes the CD.

LISA-GO-BLIND:

oops…Looks like I had the Guess Who on my brain, as I was thinking of the next song, “Clap for the Wolfman.”
