I knoooow, I already asked you to help me make Valentine’s frushi, but now you get to make the background music too.
I’m looking for some soft, pretty music to play with low lights and wine… lyrics, if present, need to be appropriate (lovey dovey mushy stuff)… slow is good, acoustic is good, non-overbearing vocals are good. Please god no Kenny G or power ballads.
This is what I’ve got so far, in no particular order:
“Paper Tiger”- Spoon
“Echo” - Incubus
“Part One” - Band of Horses
and those aren’t definites. I want to put something by Iron & Wine on here, but I don’t know what… and I want so bad to use “Delicate” by Damien Rice, but I read the lyrics and apparently they’re not as mushy as I thought. :[
Pleeeeease help. And thanks in advance for helping to make my Valentine’s day more icky.
“You Belong To Me”, the Bob Dylan version from the *Natural Born Killers * soundtrack. His voice can be a little jarring, but despite that I think it’s just a beautiful performance of a beautiful song.
I just previewed your selections on iTunes, and realized my original list might not have been appealing, so I added and Indie/Alt section. Good luck.
Smooshy and Romantic:
Van Morrison - “Crazy Love” or “Tupelo Honey”
Tony Bennet - “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face” or “Sophisticated Lady”
Norah Jones - “Come Away With Me”
Dan Fogelberg - “Longer”
Kurt Elling - “Moonlight Serenade”
Indie/Alt: (note- I can’t understand most of these lyrics, so fair warning…)
Pagoda - “Down to the Road”
Wilco - “I’m Always in Love”
Candy Bars - “Violets”
American Analog Set - “Immaculate Heart i”
Theatrical:
The Music Man - “Goodnight My Someone”
The Sound of Music - “Something Good” or “'Till there was You” (you could do the Etta Jones version)
Playful:
Ray Charles - (Night Time Is) The Right Time
Madeleine Peyroux - “Dance Me to the End of Love”
Luna - “Dizzy”
To the Point (if you’re a Dude):
AC/DC - “Let Me Put My Love In You” or “Giving the Dog a Bone”
My tastes are more mainstream than some of the previous posters, but these always worked for me:
“Follow You, Follow Me” by Genesis
“Love Song”–The Cure
“If I Fell”–The Beatles
“Still the One”–Shania Twain
“Suavecito”–Malo
“Mad About You”–Belinda Carlisle
“I Like It, I Love It”–Tim McGraw
“Amazed”–Lonestar
“Woman”–John Lennon
I’d say dig out the old motown 45’s. Al Green Lets stay together is a great one in my book. Also, if you’re in a freaky mood you can listen to R kelly and…well you know how he gets down
