I’m beginning to think that all the creative names for blogs have been taken.
I am hoping to make it a knitting blog to keep me motivated towards this obsession of mine and really don’t want to make it a Shirley Ujest kinda thing. Gotta keep the alter ego’s compartmentalized, yanno.
I would like to have it either be in the A’s or Z’sof the alphabet or something one word that is easy to remember. I was trying for Fiddlestix, but that is taken by someone else at Blogger, the bastards.
I also know zero about the blogging world and would welcome any other blogging sites that are easy to maintain and FREE ( with upgrades availble to entice me to even more greater levels of addiction.)
As for free-and-awesome blogging sites, you might check out www.wordpress.com. You can set up your own subdomain, as on Blogger (e.g., shirleyujest.wordpress.com), and Wordpress has terrific, frequently-updated software. If you later decide you want to start your own domain, as some nerds (ahem) do, you can install Wordpress’s software for free on your site. It’s open-source, and massively customizable in lots of ways. Great product.
And I’m not getting paid to say that. But I did approve this message.
Woohoo! Another knitblogger! (Yeah, I knit, and I blog about it. Best thing I’ve ever done.)
The knitblogger community is huge, which makes coming up with an original name pretty damn difficult, as you’ve obviously discovered. I know Purls Before Swine is taken (it’s a great blog), and Knit Happens is a pretty well-known knitting store with its own webpage.
I like Knitting Not Drowning (not taken, as far as I can tell) and Fly By Knit (also not taken). Really, I think it’s more important that you pick a name you love than picking something no one else has thought of. There are a lot of duplicate and near-duplicate blog names out there, most of them unintentional. As long as you avoid the obvious ones (Yarn Harlot is right out), it shouldn’t be a problem. I did my research when I picked my blog name (nerd knits) and I couldn’t find anyone with anything close. Now (a year later) there’s half a dozen knitblogs with variations of my name. Oh well.
Whatever you pick, let us know…I’m always looking for new, good knitting blogs.
And, if you haven’t heard of it there is a socktoberfest KAL, which is the entire reason why I want to start a blog, so I can join in the yarn pronny goodness.
I don’t spin and I don’t think I can afford to start a new obsession, thank you very much, Ms. Crack dealer ma’am!
I just blew another $18 + tax on really purty sock yarn ( fortisma) at my LYS. I have yet to figure out the stupid gusset.
But the yarn had glitter in it. OOOOOOOOOOH.
