For knitters/crocheters/spinners out there, check out Ravelry.com It’s a fantastic site for networking, finding patterns and being around like minded crafters. I made a community for LJ/SDMB folks here: Ravelry
Please join us for discussion and pattern sharing for the needle arts!
Yes, I Ravelry…I was even a Beta tester…a bad one, because I took my own sweet time getting stuff set up on there, and I still have lots of exploring to do. I’ll check out the link later…
I love Ravelry! Like Suburban Plankton said, I was out last night with a group of people from the Sac Pub Knits board. I have the same name there as I do here.
Wow, I’m glad I read this. I signed up for Ravelry a long time ago and never heard back. So I just checked and they had sent me an invitation in October! Ha ha. Now I’m signed up and I have the stupid name of Whiskers.
Why am I so bad at picking user names?
Now I have to figure out Ravelry. Kittenblue will have to explain it to me.
When will you learn, Lillith Fair? No picking names until we talk! I still think my name for your car would be a good one…But you can change your Ravelry name, so if you think of a better one, you aren’t stuck for life.
I shouldn’t mention that my Ravelry name, bluejeanbaby, took four hours and an intercontinental discussion to decide on…and I’m still not 100% happy…
I have the same name there.
I also spend too much time there.
I love looking at what other people have done with yarn I am thinking of buying.
Recently I became addicted to knitting socks.
I Ravel under the name Asmody. (Closer to my real life name, if you must know.) I was one of the last people to beta test, and now I wish that Ravelry had a Charter Member status or something.
I use the same username there as here. I love it. In only a few months of browsing around over there and reading their forums, I’ve gone from a timid scarf-and-basic-sock-knitter to a devil-may-care, “What the hell? Worth a try…” knitter. I’m almost done with my first cardigan (which is turning out fabulously and which I’m inordinately proud of) and have a skein of sock yarn waiting patiently for me to conquer that thrice-damned toe-up cast-on.
I’m a Raveler! I’m cee3 over there (yeah, not much of an imaginative user name creator here, either). Friend me if you’d like!
I just started my second pair of two-socks-at-a-time on one circular. I love this method - I have serious one sock syndrome. I’ve also just started a couple sweaters for my little boys for Christmas.
I’m as addicted to Ravelry as I am to the Dope - those are the two tabs I consistently have open when I’m sitting in front of the computer. Now I just have to figure out how to type and knit at the same time.
ETA: is there a Dopers group over there? If not, we should have one.
I am a member but haven’t put anything up. Our digital camera isn’t working properly. I am on there looking at other people’s stuff all the time. I’m Caricci there too.
I love that I saw Brooke’s Column of Leaves here first. It’s a pretty popular design
