Naming a blog

I’m about to start a blog, and would like a witty name. It’s going to be mostly discussion of my newcomer’s attempts to start a backyard garden (in New England), as well as photos and descriptions of things that I cook. There might also be random book discussions, unrelated to either of the above topics. And, if I ever get out the quilting stuff again, there will be photos of projects.

Basically, with the exception of the book discussions, it will be about doing things myself that would be cheaper and easier to purchase. If it helps, there will be way too many tomatoes in the garden.

Any thoughts, creative Dopers?

how about Quite Contrary?

It’s already taken, but you sure are quick!

The Dirty Hoe

So it’s sort of the opposite of frugal - kind of defiantly elaborate or something?

I really like the idea, BTW - if I understand you correctly, it’s the same sort of gently anarchic stance against mass-production and consumer blandness that I favour in my own dabblings.

Mangetout, you understand me perfectly, and you are on the right track. The only problem is that I won’t be doing things well to start off with, so I’m not sure I want the name of the blog to be quite so “confident”.

DMark, the blog is going to be shown to my parents, so I’ll avoid your suggestion.

How about ‘Muddling Through’?

Mucking About

New England?
How about Wicked Good Garden?
Boston Red Thumbs?
The Boston Garden?
Pahk Your Seeds In Harvahd Yahd?
Boston Uncommon?

Other ideas:
The Seedy Side Of Town
The Planter’s Nuts!
Growth National Product

Are you the creative force behind Alton Brown’s episode names, by any chance?

Sorry. If I am, I’m certainly not getting paid for it!

The Prehensile Gardener Cooks

Thanks for the ideas, everyone. I wound up googling for quotations and found this:

"He had been eight years upon a project for extracting
sunbeams out of cucumbers, which were to be put into
vials hermetically sealed, and let out to warm the air in
raw, inclement summers. " - Jonathon Swift

For some reason, it really tickles my fancy, so I think I will go with “Sunbeams out of cucumbers”.

Thanks again!

Sounds like a Bostonian pr0n movie.

Kids these days… I remember, in the olden days, having trouble naming my Zines…
