I really like their album “Damnation” … rather soft, quiet flowing prog rock … intelligent music, indeed
most of their other work seems to be “record the screams of when you get stabbed into your eyes”
is there more of them that sounds like “damnation” out there?

Have you tried Heritage, Pale Communion or Soceress (my favorite of the three)? I listen to different Opeth albums depending on my mood. I would rarely listen to Blackwater Park and Soceress on the same day, and I do enjoy both or them.
How about progressive deathcore?
You might like Porcupine Tree. More proggy, less metal.
yes, I do dip a bit into P.tree every now and then …
but - just like so many prog bands (opeth also!) - they cant resist the urge to have at least 4 key changes and 3 different time signatures in every bloody track (it gets old fast!) …
which makes it sound like every song consists of 3 sub-songs … hey, the fact that Macca could pull this off (Day in your life, Band on the run,… ) doesnt mean you can 
…
so I guess: I do like me some prog. as long as it isnt so formulaic prog - hence my original like of Damnation…
