Help me pick a cat tree

I’ve been thinking of getting a cat tree and I’ve narrowed it down to 2 choices. I’d ask the main interested parties but they only respond to images on computer monitors if it’s a bird video.

Here is the first option: Amazon.ca

and the second: Amazon.ca (the Esma one)
Here is a picture of the would-be occupants, starring out the window on a breezy summer afternoon, dreadfully reduced to sharing a chair Imgur: The magic of the Internet

Whichever one I go with, I’ll post pictures when it arrives.

What a great kitty pic.

I like the Pawhut tree because it has places to hang out. When my cats get older, they want to hang out more than actually play on the thing, so this would be perfect. Right now I only have low scratch posts, waist-height or so, because my avatar kitty is a dummy. He jumped from the top of a tall one and hurt his leg.

I am not a cat owner. But I like the Pawhut tree more, because it seems to have more places to sit.

Pawhut, and for the same reasons - places to chill.

As a long-time cat owner, I advise you to pick a tree that has a large enough base to balance the top. The second one doesn’t have much of a base at all, and a full-grown cat leaping upwards may cause it to tip over unless you have it otherwise secured. The first one looks like it has more balance but is just OK. I wouldn’t buy a cat tree on-line unless that’s your only option. It’s better to visit some pet stores and try them out for stability.

The mast you see on top can screw up to the ceiling for stability.

If that fails, I can put something heavy at the base.

Just be aware that your cats are unlikely to use the faux fur parts for scratching. They will probably only scratch the sisal parts, so you want to make sure those are of sufficient length that your cats can get their scratch on. Also, the cats that were given access to a Trixie post at our house all said no and would not use it even to hang out on. They were used to a carpeted cat tower and find the faux fur a poor substitute.

Pawhut looks sturdier and more interesting (though I confess I’m not a cat). Also: Cute cats!

I think the first one is a better choice.

My kitties love this one.

Which one comes in a box? The cats want to know.

the cream /light colored longhair is giving the evil kitty look of dooooom ……
we have an old model its carpeted theres a place on the top a place in the middle and a little hidey hole on the bottom ….they just claw the bottom and play queen of the hill for the top…

have you tried chewy.com? the chat help is great as long as you don’t mind silly cat puns…and they have an ad showing what the op is looking for in the middle of the page……….

Thanks, I found this one which could also be interesting: https://www.chewy.com/gopetclub-106-in-cat-tree-beige/dp/101953

I’m coming to agree that the first tree is probably better overall than the second one.

ETA: I see that Chewy only ships to the US so I’m out of luck up here in Canada. Too bad because it was a good one.

ETA: but they have it on Amazon https://www.amazon.ca/Go-Pet-Club-FC03-106-Inch/dp/B0014M3VC2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1550754205&sr=8-4&keywords=106+cat+tree+beige
so it’s back in.

I’d like to have opinions on the Pawhut and this latest 106-inch tree. Knowing why you prefer one over the other would help even more.

For multiple cats, the first one is better. The second one is too skinny, and the cats would find it crowded.

The latest tree I found through nightshadea’s link is from GoPetClub. When identifying the trees, could you say “Pawhut” or “GoPetClub” instead of “first” and “second” since I won’t know if “second” refers to the Trixie or GoPetClub tree.

I can say from experience not to bother with cat trees, posts, or stands that have dangly toys attached. Those will only get torn off in a matter of days.

I wish our feline [del]resident[/del] master would use the sisal bits for scratching. He totally ignores all four and prefers the carpet instead.

What a timely thread! I am looking for a cat tree for my new kitty. What I really want is something similar to the tree my last cat had - braces against the ceiling like both the trees in the OP, and is primarily carpet rather than sisal, because my last cats loved to scratch the carpet parts and ignored the sisal.

Some reviews of the “carpet” covered trees mention that it’s not the same texture as floor carpet and that their cats couldn’t use it to scratch because it was too smooth.

I’d like to get OP #1 Tree but it won’t ship to the US and Amazon US doesn’t carry that model. Doesn’t carry any that brace against the ceiling as far as I can tell.

Since Chewy doesn’t ship to Canada, and the Amazon.ca tree I want doesn’t ship to the US, shall we meet at the border for a tree swap?

I still like the Pawhut tree. Look at the reviews on the other one. There are only three, but two say it’s not very good quality.

Thanks to all who contributed, it helped me realize that the Pawhut tree is the best one. I ordered it and it should arrive in-between my birthday and Soa’s birthday. She likes to climb: Imgur: The magic of the Internet
