I’ve been thinking of getting a cat tree and I’ve narrowed it down to 2 choices. I’d ask the main interested parties but they only respond to images on computer monitors if it’s a bird video.
and the second: Amazon.ca (the Esma one)
Here is a picture of the would-be occupants, starring out the window on a breezy summer afternoon, dreadfully reduced to sharing a chair Imgur: The magic of the Internet
Whichever one I go with, I’ll post pictures when it arrives.
I like the Pawhut tree because it has places to hang out. When my cats get older, they want to hang out more than actually play on the thing, so this would be perfect. Right now I only have low scratch posts, waist-height or so, because my avatar kitty is a dummy. He jumped from the top of a tall one and hurt his leg.
As a long-time cat owner, I advise you to pick a tree that has a large enough base to balance the top. The second one doesn’t have much of a base at all, and a full-grown cat leaping upwards may cause it to tip over unless you have it otherwise secured. The first one looks like it has more balance but is just OK. I wouldn’t buy a cat tree on-line unless that’s your only option. It’s better to visit some pet stores and try them out for stability.
Just be aware that your cats are unlikely to use the faux fur parts for scratching. They will probably only scratch the sisal parts, so you want to make sure those are of sufficient length that your cats can get their scratch on. Also, the cats that were given access to a Trixie post at our house all said no and would not use it even to hang out on. They were used to a carpeted cat tower and find the faux fur a poor substitute.
the cream /light colored longhair is giving the evil kitty look of dooooom ……
we have an old model its carpeted theres a place on the top a place in the middle and a little hidey hole on the bottom ….they just claw the bottom and play queen of the hill for the top…
have you tried chewy.com? the chat help is great as long as you don’t mind silly cat puns…and they have an ad showing what the op is looking for in the middle of the page……….
The latest tree I found through nightshadea’s link is from GoPetClub. When identifying the trees, could you say “Pawhut” or “GoPetClub” instead of “first” and “second” since I won’t know if “second” refers to the Trixie or GoPetClub tree.
I can say from experience not to bother with cat trees, posts, or stands that have dangly toys attached. Those will only get torn off in a matter of days.
What a timely thread! I am looking for a cat tree for my new kitty. What I really want is something similar to the tree my last cat had - braces against the ceiling like both the trees in the OP, and is primarily carpet rather than sisal, because my last cats loved to scratch the carpet parts and ignored the sisal.
Some reviews of the “carpet” covered trees mention that it’s not the same texture as floor carpet and that their cats couldn’t use it to scratch because it was too smooth.
I’d like to get OP #1 Tree but it won’t ship to the US and Amazon US doesn’t carry that model. Doesn’t carry any that brace against the ceiling as far as I can tell.
Since Chewy doesn’t ship to Canada, and the Amazon.ca tree I want doesn’t ship to the US, shall we meet at the border for a tree swap?
Thanks to all who contributed, it helped me realize that the Pawhut tree is the best one. I ordered it and it should arrive in-between my birthday and Soa’s birthday. She likes to climb: Imgur: The magic of the Internet
