Thanks for the thread that I would have started if I had thought of it. I am becoming a fan of Carl Edwards, and I like Kasey Kahne, but I still don’t have a driver.
What about Denny Hamlin? He is a bit under the radar, but I think he’s got some potential. Qualified for the Chase last year, rookie of the year 2 years ago.
::shrugs:: Plus, he seems like a good kid. Won’t be getting in fights or running guys off the road and getting suspended any time soon.
Hamlin is a good choice if he can avoid the distractions of last year. He had too many irons in the fire and he developed a bad case of big head syndrome. Having the boss at the track more often should help.
Kasey Kahne and Greg Biffle (yeah, I’m a homer) have gotten off to good starts this year. Kurt Busch has kept his ego in check so far (plus he is in the blue deuce) could have a good year. Little bro Shrub is also off to a good start.
Elliott Sadler and David Reutimann are the sleepers in my fantasy leagues this year.
It really depends on what you want in a driver. Kyle Busch is exciting to watch–he’s rather reckless but very exciting. You might want to pick a team–go with Gibbs Racing and you get Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch–a lot of fun times there.
I tend to enjoy the underdogs–always pull for Boris Said when he’s in the race.
(And, let me put in a plug for the SDMB Nascar fantasy league. You’ll be a bit behind, but could still have some fun on a week by week basis.)
Not to hijack, but who did Jr blame his failure on the restart on? When everyone else got on the gas, on the next to last restart, Jr didn’t get going. I know he will never say it was his fault. So who can he blame the last yellow flag on?
Well, I know it was heard loud and clear at my house when Tony Stewart crashed. He was my top pick on my fantasy team.
I have no real bias against Dale Jr, but I sure would like to see Kyle Busch win a race first this year–just as a sort of “in your face” to Hendrick for keeping Casey Mears instead of Kyle Busch.
Sgt Schwartz: I thought you might enjoy this post-race quote from Jr.
It’s from Jerry Bonkowski’s column on Yahoo sports. "After the race, Junior described his restarts as pathetic. ‘I’ve been out of the game for so long, I was a tool out there,’ said Earnhardt, laughing. "
So I guess he’s not blaming anyone but himself, with a dash of implied blame on DEI for not giving him good equipment last year.
I’d like to see Sadler have a good year, and I’m a big fan of Bowyer, although he hasn’t gotten off to a particularly good start.
Although none of them are my personal favorites, I’ve got to tip my hat to Stewart, Jeff Gordon and Kurt Busch, all of whom got their bells rung pretty good at Vegas yesterday. Without the safety features of the new car and the SAFER barriers, any of those accidents could have resulted in major injuries or worse.
I hope you have a good snooze alarm with that pick.
Seriously though; I know very little of David, but the talking heads all speak of him (Great guy! Swell guy! Look out for him! He is gonna be a contender! Nice guy!) as though he were the second coming. Could someone please tell me why they seem to think this way? I have yet to see him wreck a car to the finish line.
