Help me pick out some BOAT SONGS!

Cripple Creek Ferry - Neil Young

Too late to edit: Another boat-themed song by Neil Young: Powderfinger

The theme music to Captain Pugwash

Wait Till Your Boat Goes Down - XTC

Ship Trapped in The Ice - Andy Partridge (Waqsn’t sure as it’s a’ship’ song but others are listed above and it’s a great song)

MiM

Bah. I’m left with *White Flag *by Dido and Sail Away by Enya. I’m hoping I can come up with something a little more manly to redeem my reputation.

If you don’t mind longer classical pieces there’s Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony (which does have words) and the entirety of Wagner’s Flying Dutchman, plus an obscure favorite of mine by Judith Bingham, Salt in the Blood.

When The Boat Comes In

You mean Orinoco Flow.

I do, sadly.

I’ll throw in *Rame * (Row) by Alain Souchon. I’d link to a performance but YouTube is full of bad covers and bootlegs.

If you’re willing to consider symphonic works, there’s the whole Victory at Sea suite of pieces. Personally, I’m particularly fond of The Theme of the Fast Carriers.

Titanic cast recording

If you don’t mind something a little schlocky, I would suggest “Cast Your Fate to the Wind”, written by Vince Guaraldi (the same guy who did the theme music for the Peanuts specials).

“Louie, Louie” is about sailing, although you might not know it from the Kingsmen version. (And you can get a two-fer – Dave Stewart and Amanda Gaskin did a medley of “Louie, Louie” and “Cast Your Fate to the Wind”!)

Then there’s “Sail Away” by Randy Newman – but you might not really want that one.

“Ferry Cross the Mersey” and “Yellow Submarine” are about specific kinds of boats…

There’s Sealdriver by **Jethro Tull. **
The Ship Song by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
The Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin. Especially when the Viking Kittensdo it, anyway.

Come On Down to My Boat by Every Mother’s Son

Ride Captain Ride by** Blues Image**

We sail against England ?

Al Stewart’s Lord Grenville

One more that I forgot that I absolutely must include:

The Grey Funnel Line, a rather satirical song about sailing with the Royal Navy. This version is by Silly Sisters: Maddy Prior and June Tabor.

You forgot one, but I can’t find a live link to it

Ship of Fools - Elvis Costello on the Deadicated Album

What, nobody’s mentioned the theme from Jaws?
Dah dum… Daaaaah dum…

Also, Downstream by the Rainmakers. Great song from a great under-known band.

Sorry, much as I love CCR, go with the Ike & Tina version.

Shake Down Cruise by Jay Ferguson
The Wreck of The Edumund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot

“Row, Row, Row” and “Sailin’ on the Robert E. Lee” - Spike Jones

Speaking of Jaws, the best rendition of Spanish Ladies ever.
