Songs with "Under the Sea" or "Ocean" theme

Well, it’s time for my one big party of the year and this year we’re having an “Under the Sea” theme (i.e, “Sea of Love”, “Octopus’s Garden”, etc.). Does anybody have any song ideas for my party playlist? Any suggestions would be most appreciated! Thanks! :-).

I came in to suggest Octopus’s Garden. Darn.

Well, the Beatles also give us Yellow Submarine.

There’s “Under the sea” from “The Little Mermaid.”

Rock Lobster by The B52s. Also a great party dance tune.

Kip Addotta’s Wet Dream (The Fish Song) (Cruising Through the Gulf Stream) is a novelty song that is absolutely hilarious (but then again, I’m easily amused).

You can find his CDs here as well as a sample mp3. Scroll down to the The Comedian of the United States CD.

Have a great party!

“Beyond the sea” as covered by Robbie Williams for Finding Nemo

Who can forget “Beyond The Sea” by Bobby Darin?

Would “Aqualung” from Jethro Tull count?

Atlantis by Donovan

Southern Cross by Crosby, Stills & Nash is another good one.

I had that song stuck in my head for a couple of weeks while delivering a sailboat to the Bahamas a few years ago.

On second thought, that one might be a bit too slow and mellow for a party.

Never mind. :smack:

To the Sea - Razorlight
From the Sea - Eskimo Joe
Lost at Sea - The Bangles
Seven Seas - Echo and the Bunnymen
Six Months In a Leaky Boat - Split Enz

Captain Nemo—Sarah Brightman
Katy Allen—Grey DeLisle
Hymn to Red October—Basil Poledoris
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald—Gordon Lightfoot

Er…that’s not much of a “party mix,” now that I think of it. Unless you have a bunch of seafaring old Goths. (“Yarr…th’ pain o’ existance shivers me down to me old Doc Martins! Arr…”)

So, unless you want something somber to play in the makeout room for “Seven Minutes in Davy Jones’ Locker,” ye might want to avoid those last ones.

Instead, maybe…

Sink the Bismark—Johnny Horton
A Whale of a Tale—Kirk Douglas, in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Heart of Oak—(Anthem of the Royal Navy. Various recordings—but this one sounds good, to me. Captain Picard sang this one on Star Trek, once.)
“Arr, me lads, did I ever tell ye of when I spyed Moby Bauhaus, through a chink in me deadlights as I were steamin’ round the Horn…”

Islands, King Crimson - but it’s a bit of an acquired taste.

Down by the Seaside off Physical Graffiti, third side, fourth song, I think. Not your classic “party” tune, but it’s Zep.

If King Crimson is an acquired taste and you’re being bold, try

Nektar - A Tab in the Ocean.

Basically an LSD experience described in underwater imagery.

Well, as a movie reference, you could throw in Earth Angel and Johnny B. Goode

I’ll give a second vote to Donovan’s Atlantis, plus:

Jimi Hendrix’s 1983… (A Merman I Should Turn To Be) (from Electric Ladyland)
Led Zeppelin, The Ocean, from Houses of the Holy

Wooden Ships–Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young
Sailing Away–Grand Funk Railroad

[Homer] “There’ll be no frustrations,
Just friendly crustaceans
Under the seaaaa…” [/Homer]

Darn you! I thought I’d be so clever for recommending that first.

Well, I’ll still recommend Sloop John B by the Beach Boys. Or, really, half the Beach Boys’ catalogue when you come right down to it – ie all those surfing songs. Or just put on a Jimmy Buffet album.
