Beach Music!

I need some new beach music, I’m making a cd. I like lots of kind of music. Lately it’s been a lot of classic rock stuff, but I feel I need a change up!

So tell me, what songs send you to the beach when you hear them?

(Please no Beach Boys, also rap not so much!).

I look forward to your suggestions, thanks! Also I’m listening to every song you suggest, promise.

Blondie, “In the Sun
Hawaii Mud Bombers, “Johanna Beach

Sheryl Crow, “Soak up the Sun”

Concrete Beach–DOA

Rockaway Beach– Ramones

I like all the old twangy surf music. Dick Dale, The Ventures, Surfaris, Jan&Dean, Chantay’s

“Pulling Mussels From a Shell” - Squeeze
“The Ocean” - Led Zeppelin
“Sea of Love” - Honeydrippers

The beach is a place where a man can feel he’s the only soul in the world that is real…

Bellboy, The Who

I like Brazilian sambas… Jobim, Gilberto, great stuff

Bobby Darin, “Beyond The Sea”. Swingin’!

The Righteous Brothers, “Ebb Tide”.

Almost anything by Jimmy Buffet.

For getting into the surf/beach frame of mind (even when the closest thing to it is Buckeye Lake), you can’t beat The Mermen (“Unto the Resplendent” is one of their best).

Some North Carolina Style Beach music (although it does carry over to other areas as well.)

The Drifters The Drifters - Under the Boardwalk - YouTube

General Johnson and the Chairmen of the Board The Drifters - Under the Boardwalk - YouTube

The Tams Be Young Be Foolish Be Happy - The Tams - 1968 - YouTube

The Embers Be Young Be Foolish Be Happy - The Tams - 1968 - YouTube

They’re not necessarily beach themed songs, but in college when I’d go to the beach and I put Led Zeppelin on the ol’ boom box, I attracted all kinds of wanted attention.

The CD I burned had: Whole Lotta Love, Over the Hills and Far Away, Bring it on Home, Nobody’s Fault but Mine, the Lemon Song, Rock and Roll, Fool in the Rain, D’yer Mak’er, Good Times Bad Times, Song Remains the Same, When the Levee Breaks, Hey Hey What Can I Do. Probably a few more, but these are what I remember.

Thanks, these are all great suggestions! Don’t stop!

I am making two CDs, one for the drive to the beach, and one for the drive home!

In case you have songs that would suit either! (The drive starts in the city core, through some strip malls, schools, housing developments, then some light industrial, storage facilities, a few horse farms, then fields and fields of farmers crops, the turkey farm, couple of quaint tiny towns, all at once you can smell Lake Huron and then it’s over the bridge and around the bend and to the beach!)

Sigh…forgive me but it has been an exceptionally wintry spring here, and am dreaming of the beach…

I think upbeat and sunny:

The Sundays - Summertime

Sheryl Crow - Love is Free

Natalie Merchant - Where I Go

Billy Idol - Hot in the City

Perfect song for that stretch: The Valley of Malls by Fountains of Wayne. And later on when you hit the beach, Dip In The Ocean is a good pick.

I always bring my Fountains of Wayne CDs on road trips. They have so many great, catchy pop tunes that are fun to sing along with.
