Beach Songs

So I’m just learning to burn CD’s, I know, I know, how behind the times am I?

So I’m looking for some help with songs that make you think of the beach. I know some that do it for me, but I’m wondering what does it for you?

After all you’re such and interesting and diverse group I just know you’ll have some interesting suggestions.

I’m waiting with baited breath, bring 'em on.

Hey, and like thanks for the help.

Peace.

Surfin’ USA
Surfin’ Safari
Surf’s Up
California Girls
Catch A Wave
Do It Again
Girls On The Beach
Little Surfer Girl
Noble Surfer

Just to get you started.

Oh, yeah. All of the above are from one group.

Buffet. Lots and lots of Buffet.

My favorites:
Tin Cup Chalice
Banana Republics
Come Monday
Grapefruit-Juicy Fruit
Havana Daydreamin’
Jamaica Mistaica
Mexico
One Particular Harbor

Then the old standbys:
Volcano, Boat Drinks, Margaritaville, etc…

  • Peter Wiggen

“Rock Lobster” by the B52’s. The greatest beach song of all time.

Oh, and just about anything by Dick Dale.

Rockaway Beach
Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini
Songs that are not explicitly beach songs but I think of them as “Beachy”
I’m a Blonde
Palisades Park

You might do better in Café Society

Okay I have a few, mostly summer songs but for me summer = beach.

Beach Baby - First Class

Suddenly Last Summer - Motels

Boys of Summer - Don Henley

Come Said the Boy - Mondo Rock

Echo Beach - Martha & The Muffins

Soak up the Sun - Sheryl Crow

Cheap Wine - Cold Chisel

If you want something mellow and relaxing but bloody good, do a search for Bic Runga…voice of an angel.

Shit! I haven’t though of that song in years. I love it!

Under the Boardwalk

Pipeline

Wipe Out

I Wanna Be A Lifeguard

Don’t Get Sand In It

Ukelele Lady

Fish Heads (well at least the beaches around here)

The Theme to “Endless Summer” The Sandals

I Live for the Sun The Surf Punks

Almost any song by the Ventures…

dbygawdcapn, thanks for reminding me!

Sand beneath my toes
Hardly any clothes
White stuff on my nose!

How could I have forgotten the best one of all…

In the Summertime by Mungo Jerry

Thank you so much, you guys rock.

Those are all wonderful suggetions. I will spend some time listening to each and every one I promise you.

Gee, maybe I’ll have to make two CD’s

Thank you again for your kindness;

May Heaven's Finest Blessings Shower Down Upon You !

Peace.

Though PeterWiggin covered Jimmy Buffett quite nicely, I’ll toss in Buffet’s “Blonde Stranger” as one of the best.

“Panama City Blues” by an obscure group called Larry and the Loafers is great, but lots of luck finding that one on line. (from circa 1962)

Another Buffett song - “The Weather Is Here; I Wish You Were Beautiful.” Great beach song.

California Dreamin’ by the Mamas and the Papas. It’s not about the beach per se, but it’s about longing for the beach atmosphere, and I find it always puts me in that frame of mind.

I’m drawing a complete blank on song names but a lot of Kenny Chesney’s new songs seem to be beach themed. The most recent one is a duet with Uncle Kracker. It’s a great song but I can’t remember the name. DAMN! This is going to bug me now.

The Dead Milkmen have a few beach-themed songs, if you’re looking for something a little more… well, stupid. Beach Party Vietnam (“surfin’ with the Viet Cong”) and The Beach (“the air smells like rotting fish and solarcaine”) come to mind.

My name fits into this song really well. I knew a guy in college who discovered that, and whenever he saw me he would burst out with “Chuck Foster!” (not my real name) in that B52s falsetto thing. It was kind of annoying sometimes, but mostly really amusing.
