help me re-arrange the "favorites" folders in IE8

Yes, it’s a dumb question…but I tried googling and that doesn’t help either.
I want to re-arrrange the order of the 50 or so folders (not individual links) in my favorites list.
I do NOT want to insert anything into existing folders, I just want to MOVE the damn things to a different order .
For example: My favorites has a list of folders like this:

CATS
DOGS
MONEY
FAMILY
PORN

My goal in life is: to re-arrange the folders in order of importance. Which means that I want to move the “porn” folder to be 2nd on the list, between cats and dogs.

I am a failure at reaching my life’s goal. Help me!
When I try to use the mouse to drag and drop it, I only manage to lose the porn folder entirely. Because when I drop it into the space between the folders labelled “cats” and “dogs”, it inserts itself as a sub-directory,inside the Cats folder, and thus disappears from the main list and becomes hard to find. I do not want my Porn folder to be hard to find!
I have about 50 folders that I need to move , and I can’t figure out how to move them. I’ve seen lots of help sites and youtube demos-for-dummies --but they only tell you how to create a folder and put links into it, or how to move a link into a folder (drag and drop).
Nobody tells you how to move a folder to be next to another folder, but not stacked underneath/inside it as a sub-folder.
Help!!!
(I am using Internet Explorer 8 with Windows XP)

Try upgrading to a newer version or a different browser. In IE10 and Firefox, you can just change the order by dragging and dropping. Or if they’re sorted alphabetically, just give them all numbers: 01 Cats, 02 Porn, 03 Dogs, etc.

Yeah, put numbers in front of the names of the folders, then order them alphabetically.

I will occasionally want a folder at the top of a list. To do that I put an underscore in front of its name.

Just tried moving folders on my IE8 and it worked just fine.

Do you have the “Menu Bar” at the top of the page?

If not go to Tools - Tool Bars - and check the box for “Menu Bar”

The “Menu Bar” will appear near the top of the page and will have a “Favorites” tab

Click on the “Favorites” tab to get a drop down list of your favorites. Left click and hold on the folder you want to move and drag it up or down to the new location, you will see a black line move as you drag and when that black line is at the right place just release the left click and the folder will be in the new place.

That’s how it works for me
