This is too funny. When I looked at the topic of this post, I said to myself “I bet its a cocker spaniel”, and sure enough…
I say this because I have a cocker spaniel and he’s always been notorious for his room-clearing, sleep-disturbing farts. I truly have never smelled anything so foul in my life.
I remember hearing that cocker spaniels do tend to be gassy, but I don’t know if its really true or not.
Pet/Vet supply catologues also offer pet doses of Beano™ too, in addition to Curtail. Unless Curtail is made by Beano, but I know the company making it is definitely the same as the people’s product.
All of the above are good ideas, with the possible exception of the yeast. I’m thinking that might actually exacerbate the problem, but I don’t know for sure.
Bitz the Wonder Mutt my beloved 1/2 Lab 1/2 Rott mix is notorious for her stinkbombs. The PETsMART rep and vet both suggested changing her food if it seemed there were any digestive problems, but her droppings indicated there weren’t. She’s food trained, which means there’s always food in her bowl and she eats what she wants when she wants; so the one meal gorging gas thing wasn’t an issue.
I finally, based on the advice of a friend, found something that works great: Mother Hubbard Brand “Char-Tar” biscuits. 2 of these a day has made a drastic improvement in the quality of life around my house. The charcoal in them doesn’t keep her from farting like a boy band on a tour bus, but IT TAKES THE SMELL AWAY.
I find that to be a very happy compromise. Here’s hoping you find something that works for you, and soon.
I recommend charcoal tablets, you should be able to find them easily enough as people use them too. Just be careful to not give them around the time of any medication as the charcoal will absorb that too.
