Does a dog ever fart audibly?

I have never heard my dog fart. He certainly does fart but it’s always of the silent but deadly variety. Is this just an idiosyncrasy of my dog’s or common to all dogs? (Come to think of it I’ve never heard a cat fart either.)

Yes, they fart audibly. My Boston Terriers are my cite.

yes, one of my folks’ cocker spaniels has.

it catches him by surprise, too. when it happens his head whips around and he stares at his ass like “what the hell was that?”

I’m not kidding.

Yes. Chesapeake Bay Retrievers do. At least some do, or at least one.

One of the three standard poodles I’ve owned did so.

My chihuahua farts audibly but not often. My sharpei would rip boomers that sounded just like a loud human fart.

I’ve never had a dog that farted audibly, or even left silent but deadly ones. I don’t doubt that lots of dogs do. It might be a matter of diet. They’ve always been fed dry kibble and no scraps from the table. Not much cheese to cut there, IMO.

My PB/GSD would fart audibly, and then jump up from wherever she was sitting, like something just bit her butt.

I had a cat who would fart audibly, but he was a remarkable cat in many ways.

God yes…every dog I ever had farted. I wonder if it’s like Cochrane said due entirely to feeding treats and table food. I am gonna test that theory on my dog, She is addicted to cookies and bologna and pepperoni and pretty much any thing she can bum off you. I will let you know what happens!

Most of the time, my dog (a 70 pound pit) lets them go quietly (either completely silent or that light sort of “releasing tire pressure” kind of sound), but every so often he has a short, but snappy popping kind of fart that makes me giggle, especially when he wakes himself up from sleep with one.
.

Two words… Basset Hound.

Oh, man. We had a Basset when I was a kid. His were silent but deadly. He made up for it by snoring like a chain saw. Sweet personality, though.

Come to my home and meet Gunner the Great Dane. Bring your gas mask

OBL did this, too.

We had a lab whose loud carts never stunk, but the silent ones would clear the room. The beagle/cattle dog we have now doesn’t seem to be too gaseous.

Also Saddam. I wonder if it’s the lifestyle.

I switched my PB/GSD’s food, from Iams, or whatever, to some local food, and her farts were reduced by about 75% in total, and about 90% in weapons-grade stank. They’d still bite her butt sometimes when they did happen, and it was still funny.

I think every dog I’ve ever had, and there have been many, has farted audibly sooner or later. I too find it amusing when they turn around and look at their butt in amazement.

Cats do it too. Little stinkers.

My beagle occasionally sneezes and farts audibly at the same time. Her silent farts are the worst, especially if she’s nearby. On the bright side for guests, they are unaware of her silent farts . . . until they regain consciousness.
