My dog has really bad gas.

My new puppy is a great dog and we love him to pieces. But when he farts, it’s the worst smell in the world. It stinks up the whole house, not just the room he’s in. He leaves the rest of the family in tears, chocking and gagging. The first time he farted, we thought the septic tank had backed up.

Does anyone know how to reduce the stink level ?

Burnt toast. I don’t know why it works, but I had a dog that had the worst gas too and it worked for him.

It may be his diet. What kind of food are you giving him? Check the ingredients. Also, when my doberman had eye-watering gas, it turned out he had whip worms. After I treated him for the worms, his “emmisions” problem improved significantly.

I’d take him to the vet. I’ve never had a farty animal in my life. It’s just not right.

A second on the “what are you feeding him?”

I’ve always had great success with Purina’s products keeping down the exhaust and the size of droppings.

If my dog had the problem, I’d take Kalhoun’s advice. Off to the vet!

We give our dog “Beano”. 1 pill twice a day. Works pretty well, reduces emissions by over 80%. We tried fiddling with diets, seeing the vet, etc. Nothing worked until Beano. The vet, when told we were trying it just said to let her know if it works.

I don’t know if it will work for a dog, but we have a cat at work that we took in from the street. This animal had the nastiest farts I ever had the misfortune to smell. Horrible and often. Changing his diet didn’t help. But the farts stopped after we had him neutered. The women in the office are of the opinion that this would probably work on the males of all species.

My aunt and uncle used to light a match when thier dog farted. Trixie could really deal one out too. No, the house didn’t explode.

Sure, blame it on the dog.

If you’re in a quiet room with our Rusty and you hear a very soft “ffffffft” – RED ALERT! RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY!

He rarely does it, but when he does…oh my. It’s bad. It’s worse than bad. Awful.

Better a gassy dog than a dog with bloat.
bloat

Our dogs fart every now and then, but not excessively. Are you sure your dog is actually farting, or is it the anal glands? They can be awfully stinky if obstructed.

anal glands

I never heard of neutering stopping smelly male cat farts, but it certainly stopped my tom cat from spewing his foul male kitty spray when we had him neutered at 8 months of age.

When my cat was a kitten, she had really bad gas. I had read somewhere that yougurt with active cultures could help, so we fed her some plain yogurt, and the problem cleared up within a day. The rest of her life, she never had the problem again…she died this year at 13.

Try the Beano, It would seem effective

Try and teach the new pup to leave the room before farting

With my dog, She walks into a room, passes gas and then leaves, only infecting the room that no one is in. :stuck_out_tongue:

That stragety works quite well.

Quadruple post – I’m impressed!

And here I thought that I felt strongly about Beano!!

I hit that button a few many times :smack:
