Help! Music from the 1850s ish

I’m stage manager for a play set in the 1860’s about Edgar Degas. I’ve been askd to find music from the period that is arranged the way it would have been.

bonus points if it is ballet music.

Triple bonus points if it is from the ballet La Source.

Any ideas?

Anyone?

Bueller?

See if you can find anything from Le Papillon or Le Marché des Innocents

If you want something that is written to bring the audience to its feet…perhaps just before or after the performance (get the audience in the mood)Louis Gottschalkmight fit the bill. He may have been an American but he studied in Paris and spent most of his professional life outside of the U.S.

Would April 9,1860 be too late?

That’ll bring the audience to its feet … and out the door.

How about something by Offenbach?

So, assuming you’re looking for a CD to play over the sound system?

If you don’t wanna order the La Source CD, there are CDs of Highlights-of-Sylvia-and-Coppelia all over the place.

Thanks.

I think I’ll get the La Source, Coppelia didn’t open till 4 years later so I can’t use that. I may get a Le Papillon since that premiered in 1860.
