Help my neice with her Flat Stanley Project !

Based on this . A neat way to introduce kids to keeping a journal / letter writing, & geography.

My 6 year old niece sent me her rendition of Flat Stanley the other day, and I began taking photos of him at various places in the Myrtle Beach area.

Then figured if Stanley can be mailed, why can’t he be emailed? And, since Dopers are a worldly bunch, wouldn’t the Teeming Millions want to show off their corners of this Third Rock, and in the process give my niece a kick-ass geography lesson?

So, after receiving permission from the mods (Thank you !), I scanned Stanley into a pdf file and a jpeg file (the 2 most familiar formats, I hope), and I wish to send him out into the interwebs, and, through you guys & gals, into the world.

I’m not asking anyone to go out of their way for this – just print the picture, cut him out, put him someplace interesting, snap a photo, and email it back to me, with a brief description of where he is (all locations will be plotted on a world map) and what he’s “doing”, and that’s it.

I’ll try to set up a Photobucket album & post the photos.

If you want to partake, please email me through my profile, and I’ll send the pdf & jpeg to you straight away. Some additional instructions will be sent in the email.

I’d like to set a cut-off date of Wednesday, March 26, 2008 for this, so that will give you 8 days to show off your locales.

P.S. When I told my niece what I planned on doing, she told me that she would love love LOVE it if Stanley could be photographed with the Sydney Opera House in the background, so please, Aussie Dopers, make her day!

Oh, and if you partake in this project, post here!

It bumps the thread back up!

Flat Stanley was one of my absolute favorite books as a kid! E-mail is on its way!

I’m in.

Cool. We recently read Flat Stanley to our 6-year old and he loved it. I bet he’d like to participate! I’m in too.

Send him to me! Stanley can go to the house of mouse with me tomorrow.

email me & I’ll get him to you !

email in your profile is turned off !

My daughter did this - her Flat Lil’Rosa should be back at school this month. It went from Minnesota to Iowa. From Iowa to New York. From New York to Germany, From Germany to Spain and Brazil, where we think it may have gone to Australia before being returned.

We are lousy at getting out the camera and getting anyplace interesting, but if you email me, I’ll see if I can’t manage to get somewhere in the Twin Cities.

I would love to participate in this project!

I’m not in (I don’t have a digital camera), but I think it’s a charming idea (my mom did some Flat Stanley shots for her grandkids). The OP is a terrific uncle/aunt.

I`m in!

I’d be delighted to do it.

Great response so far!

The mods OK’d the extension of the deadline to the first week in April, as I’ve just been informed of the due date in the second week.

Photobucket album will be up later tonight - my current pics will be in there soon.

Start snapping those pics!

I sent the email but couldn’t post last night - I think some of the hamsters were on strike!

I’m in, too.

Me too.

In! This will be fun.

Count me in.

I’m in. Not that there’s anything that exciting in Roanoke, but at least I’ll finally have a use for our 100-foot neon star on a hill.

Send Stanley on his way!
