Who wants to send 2nd graders post cards ? You do! You do!

With permission from the Almighty TubaDiva and those Wacky Jackbooted Mods:
My son’s class is going to be focusing on geography around the world and I instantly thought Wouldn’t it be cool if I could get some dopers so send postcards from where ever they live - especially you furren dopers - to their class?
So, here I am, asking for postcards with local highlights and nice clean stuff on the backs of them cause these are 7 & 8 year olds., and, if anyone is bored enough or doesn’t mind maybe local emphera: local menus, local currency, cancelled stamps, newspaper, sight seeing brochures. Y’know, the stuff that is fascinating when you travel.
Anyone who is interested, my email is in my profile. Please put SDMB in the subject line.
Thanks!

Is Philly furren enough?

Hey Shirley,

While I’m here, I’m game! E-mail on the way.

Tripler
Just a post card, huh? That’s it?

So, uh… where are you, again? I don’t want to get some stuff together and discover you live on the other side of town.

If I stuck coins (securely) onto the postcard, do you think they would be confiscated/stolen?

Sure is!

Michigan. Yanno, the Red Wings.

I don’t know. You could do one with one coin taped on it just to see if I get it. It would probably weigh too much to begin with.

I live in NYC.

To furren? Not furren enough?

I could probably get my brother to send a post card from Fairbanks, AK if that’s more furren. He has kids now and is therefore susceptible to the karmic vibe that goes with school projects and kids-organization-sales-times.

Mail handling is highly automated – forget about it being removed by a human being, it would probably get pulled off as it was being fed through a machine – and probably break the machine, to boot. I’d recommend against it – if you want to send stuff, an envelope is probably better.

SU – email on the say.

Are you maybe thinking of some of Afghanistan’s largest cash crop?

Maybe an anti aircraft thingie? (oh wait, that would surely violate the school’s No Tolerance policy.) Any local currency? or maybe just pictures

( you could upload them to my shutterfly account and I can print them out. This offer is open to all dopers, btw.)
You should have your email by now.

Well, at least there’s a chance you can pick up the CBC.

Would they be interested in Canadian things, given that Canada is not all that far away?

Philly is furren to me and I live in the same state!

E-mail sent.

Robin

Kids love crocodile stuff. I’ll go see what cool Florida post cards I can find.

Would Ms. Shirley enjoy one of them postcards with the hunky 20 something tanned men with no shirt on?

post cards of gators for kids: aok by me!

postcards of topless hunks for shirley: aok by me!

Postcards from a Brother of a doper who is in alaska: AOK!

OK Shirley, one’s in the mail from exotic California.

You know I’m in (email to follow). Can I send more than one?

While y’all are out looking for postcards, remember that laina_f collects postcards that say “<state> bird” and show a picture of a mosquito. If you come across one, I’d be very grateful if you’d send it to me. I have Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Missouri. I’ll be glad to send you or your children postcards, valentines, birthday cards, or whatever in return.

The USPS web site still shows postcard stamps for 23 cents, but I believe they went up at the same time first class did. What is actually the current rate for mailing a postcard?

Email sent

Also note that if the postcard is a large one the standard first class postage rate applies.

When I participated in the last postcard exchange I bought the bigger cards and learned that only the old fashioned, smaller ones can be sent at the lower rate.
