Help name an Evil Wizard.

I am changing the name of a dead, ancient, evil wizard for my up coming 1st edition AD&D game. He will of course come back to life or at least possess someone later in the game. I need an evil sounding name that is not lame. Maybe Conan-ish or Egyptian-ish. Something ancient evil sounding. I thought I would see if someone here could come up with something better than what I and random name generators have so far. Is Gothmog from a movie or something? Here is the hard part: I have already used S, V, A, Z and X too much as first letters for other names.

Kraken

Isn’t Kraken a greek sea monster?

Pick an ancient sounding name you like and tack “on” or “dorf” to the end of it.

“Dorf” sounds too much like “Dork.”

Ahankotep

I just made that up, but it sounds both Evil and Egyptian to me.

Oh wait, no first letter A. Add a letter of your choice to the name.

Pahankotep
Chahankotep
Bahankotep

You get the idea.

Thalnoth.

Weigand.

Baragor.

Derrax.

I find “M” to be a particularly suitable letter for starting evil wizard names. Nothing too obviously tied to “malice”, of course–that would be cheesy. And an Egyptian flavor…how about something involving “kef”. The word means, in various dialects, “to grasp”, “to tame”, or “to seize (prey)”.

So, how about “Melekef”?

Going more fully for the Egyptian theme, and a different sound, you could work with “war” (“flee”) and Keb (the god of the earth). That would fit with his return. Just shoving them together gives you “Warkeb”, which doesn’t sound too impressive, but I’m sure you could go somewhere with it if you tossed in another vowel or two.

How about Kutsa, Sabor, or Sahur?

I like all the names submitted so far. “Gothmog” was one of Sauron’s minions in Tolkien’s “LOTR: The Return of the King.” He’s in charge of the siege of Minas Tirith. In the book, it’s unclear what species he is (some have suggested he’s one of the Ringwraiths, a subordinate of the Witch-king of Angmar), but in the movie, he’s an Orc general (the deformed guy who’s almost squashed by the catapulted stone).

Thalnoth is cool. Maybe the Egyptian thing is too obvious. Think super evil.

Dark Lord Chuckles the Silly Piggy sounds sort of evil.

Yes. But it’s a great evil-sounding word, and the connection with an actual monster makes it even better.

Orogoth.

Farogor.

Kellubim.

Charnos.

Trenkmar.

I can do this all day, if you like…

Ragnarax.

Balatzor
Khatos
Garmandius
Kheloth
Morak Mogon
Gaimas
UrQuan
Cecilius

If you’ll except Gothic/Victorian:
Ashcroft just sounds like an evil wizards to me.

Gothmog was definately the #2 Ringwraith, once a black Numenorean. Named like or for a 1st Age Balrog that was slayed by Ecthelion in Gondolin.

Tonitris–I believe it is Latin for “Thunderbolt”, or “Thunderclap”.
