I have an office in what once was the nursery kitchen of an old hospital. The walls are cream-colored and tiled, and I have one window with blinds. Big black metal desk with pressboard top, old black Dell GX260 and lots of wall space. I don’t want to paint because it would be a pain to move my giant filing cabinets, but I really want to jazz it up around here with some accessories. Any advice?
I am fashion-forward so I don’t want the classic red stapler stuff. I used to have a stapler that looked like T-Rex, and I cried when I lost it. I want a new gel mousepad and wrist rest, but sick of black and blue. I’m looking for original office supplies. Anyone know where to go? I don’t mind spending but not too much.
It’s not the office supplies that give an office character, IMHO. I used wire-mesh desk accessories, fabric covered bins from Target, pictures that I took, other artwork, plants, etc., to give my office a cozy, personal look.
I kill plants, so that’s out. I do have a silk floral arrangement in a crystal vase. I think I may benefit from shelves and bins and such because I have a LOT of paperwork that I need to sort. Maybe I won’t paint but I’ll put a wall border up? Do they make those removeable?
there is a wonderfull book called “cube chic”. it shows how to remodel your cube to fit into a bit of a theme.
for example, if you were to think tropical, you could go to the dollar store kind of place (or oriental traders) and get some grass mats to tack to a wall or 2. a palm tree (inflatable or fake). tack grass skirting to your desk. tiki or wood desk accesories, depending on your ceiling you could have a tropical bird or two. drape some fake leis around.
there are some really cool low cost ideas in the book mentioned above.
