Help stop laughter inflation!

Perhaps it’s just me. Perhaps it’s just because I read these boards sober. But I have NEVER read a post and LMAO (laughed my ass off). I have never ROFL (rolled on the floor laughing). In my entired life, I’ve maybe LMAO or ROFL maybe 10 times.

It’s not simply an exaggeration either. I rarely laugh when reading the SDMB, or any other thing. To me, reading is something I do alone. I don’t know why this is, I figure maybe laughter is a social thing, so while reading alone, there is no need for me to laugh.

At any rate, I somehow doubt that other people truly are ROFL or LMAO at these posts. I think we need a new set of acronyms that reflect reality.

Here’s my nominations from my own range of experiences, keeping it mind the acronmys should be four or more letters, or else it may look weird.

CRTJ: Consciously Realizing The Joke.
SGOMF: A Slight Grin On My Face.
RCJBITHMOGL: Realizing the Cleverness of The Joke, But It Doesn’t Hit Me On a Gut Level
MSBOL: Muted Single Breath Of Laughter (in other words, a quiet “heh”)

So let’s disregard the social pressure to lie about our responses. If you are just CRTJ, don’t say you are ROFL. It is an insult to those special moments when you really are ROFL. Does anyone else agree, or do I suffer from SDMB-Anhedonia?

Well, I have seriously laughed so hard at some things on the board that I have had tears rolling down my face and people from neighboring departments have come over to find out what is going on. However, instead of typing that I was LSHTIHTRDMYAPFNDHCOTFOWIGO, I just type LMAO or ROFL. I hope this clears up any confusion.
