I haven’t seen John Lennon’s Grow Old Along With Me yet:
Lyrics:
Grow old along with me
The best is yet to be
When our time has come
We will be as one

I’d like to nominate The Luckiest by Ben Folds.
Snippets of lyrics:
I don’t get many things right the first time
In fact, I am told that a lot
Now I know all the wrong turns, the stumbles and falls
Brought me here
I’ve thought about playing it at MY wedding, should I ever have one.
Sent by Angels by the arc angels. I used it at my wedding.
We danced to Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman by Bryan Adams. It was a surprise - I told the DJ to play something nice and not country (I wasn’t big on making all the little decisions). I thought it was a good pick.
And no-one’s suggested You’re Not The Boss Of Me Now?
Seriously, have you asked your DJ (assuming you’re having one of course)?
How about that Robin Hood song? Just ask the organist to play it; he’ll know what you mean. What could go wrong?

This is a great thread. I’m recently engaged and I know our wedding song is going to be difficult to decide on as well. My fiance is a recording arts major and has very strict opinions on music, so it’s mostly going to be up to him. But I have no idea what we’ll pick in the end.
I first thought that **The Blower’s Daughter ** by Damien Rice would make a great wedding song. It’s slow sweet, very emotional, and beautiful. But after listening to it a few times I heard this really quiet line at the end of the song that ruins it for a wedding song “til I find someone new” If you could have the DJ cut out that one line it would be great. But I didn’t like the idea of doing that as that one line reveals the standpoint from which the entire song was written and that ruins it for me.
We joked about doing something crazy that would just confuse our relatives… You mentioned They Might Be Giants… **Birdhouse in Your Soul ** or Snail Shell were the two we thought would be fun
If I was planning on dancing at my wedding, which I don’t, I’d pick The Rest of Mine by Trace Adkins. It’s slow enough for dancing and Trace’s deep voice is very lovely - especially in such a sweet song. This song always makes me cry.
There’s no guarantee that we’ll see tomorrow
Heaven only knows how long we have
So there’s no way I’ll ever for one second let you wonder
Just how long my love for you will last

etc, etc
Saint Germain and congodwarf you’ve both been around long enough to know that you may NOT post the entire lyrics of a song. A line or two, and then provide a website that has copyright permission.
For those of you who are puzzled by this, it’s the first rule in Forum Rules: PLEASE READ at the top of the forum.
The old standard The Way You Look Tonight. Tony Bennet does a nice slow dance version.
Or if you want non traditional, I Wanna Grow Old With You by Adam Sandler from The Wedding Singer.
We played Barry White at our wedding. Went down a treat. Wasn’t exactly a big white wedding though.
A Thousand Beautiful Things by Annie Lennox is rather lovely.
Tone Poem by Fischerspooner - amazing for a band that doesn’t take themselves seriously, this is really gorgeous.
Ugh, I just scrolled through a fairly significant chunk of my music collection and I don’t have a whole lot of unalloyed love songs. I’m sure you’ll pick something perfect though. Go with your instincts, it sounds like you have a really good set of criteria.
My Only Love by the Statler Brothers. It’s about a wedding, it’s pretty, it’s suitable for a slow dance, and hardly anyone knows it.
Just wanted to thank everyone for they’re answers so far. We’re investigating all of them. (Yes, even the smartasses
). And if I had to add my own smartass answer, “Good Enough For Now” by Weird Al Yankovic would be it. (“You’re sort of everything I ever wanted. You’re not perfect, but I love you anyhow, You’re the woman that I always dreamed of, well… not really, but you’re good enough for now.”)
I’d think of using the Georgia Satellites’ “Keep Your hands to Yourself” but it’s a controversial choice.
How about either Alison Krauss’ or Keith Whitley’s versions of “When You Say Nothing At All” ? Both are very lovely and loving, but I like Alison’s better, her voice just gives me chills.
On “Everybody Loves Raymond,” Robert and Amy had an awesome first dance with Elvis’ “A Little Less Conversation.”
This song, written by Robert Hunter and performed by Jerry Garcia would be a good one. It’s really beautiful and great for a slow dance with your bride.
**Believe It Or Not **
Congratulations by the way.
I’m planning on dancing to “Kissing You” by Des’Ree. It’s not the most danceable song ever made, but it’s sweet and emotional, and I don’t think that it’s overdone at weddings.
Our first and second dance songs were:
“Don’t Fade Away” by Dead Can Dance
“Walking After You” by Foo Fighters
… Iiiiiii’m walkin’ on a-a-air,
I never thought I could feel
So free-hee-hee …
Dang it, now I’ll never get The Greatest American Hero out of my head.
How about Long Blond Animal, or maybe The Devil Made Me Do It, or perhaps some Leather all by Golden Earring.
Or if you want some real suggestions, though they would be fun, there’s I can’t do Without Your Kiss or Take My Hand, Close My Eyes. There are others, but I’m not telling you the song at my wedding!
