We got a dog last night. The people we got him from had raised him from a puppy, but decided they couldn’t afford to keep him. He’s a white Shepherd/Husky mix with some yellow coloring. I was afraid of how he’d be with the baby, but the people we got him from had kids and had raised him from a puppy, so he’s used to kids. He even rolled on his back and was submissive to the baby. His previous owners had named him “Lobo”, but we found that to be kind of… blah. Plus, he’s very docile and gentle, and doesn’t act like a wolf in the slightest. So, we’re looking for names. I’m partial to “Egg”, but my husband doesn’t think so.
Don’t ask me why - but he looks like a “Fritz” to me.
Maybe I’m just insane.
Elly n’ the dogs (Spanky, Zap, Valen and Pirate (Arr!))
Flea!
When I was a kid I always wanted to name any dog we had “Flea”, but my parents wouldn’t let me. They found it funny, though.
Or Peanut.
…or Noah. Casper. Boo Radley.
He’s beautiful, by the way.
Good luck finding a name you can both agree on!
Wihen I aquired most of my pets their names just sprung into my mind - including a cat I had while in college named Cecil.
One of my favorite dog names is Odif. The dog I knew named Odif was a big goof who did odd things. His owner explained that Fido is your basic, garden variety dog. Odif is Fido spelled backwards, and Odif was your basic backwards dog. If fit him.
I’d suggest naming a non-backwards dog a trendy kid’s name. It would be fun to tell the mother of a Montana, Dakota, or Taylor that was your dog 's name.
I always liked Berty Squirtbum
I used to have a dog that was similar to him and my mother ended up naming her AJAX because she was reminded of an old commercial AJAX - the white tornado
I’ve lately been partial to naming animals after authors I admire. Thus my pug, Edith Wharton.
Your dog looks to me like a Leo Tolstoy, or even Truman Capote. I’d even give you license to use my favorite author/dog name, Ivan Doig, shortened, of course, to Dog. I can’t use that one myself, since we have an Ivan in the family, and I’ve found people get miffed if you name a dog with their name. So please, someone, use it, it’s too good to let go.
Two suggestions.
First, and more sane, is to take a name from a Richard Kjielgaard dog: Chuikov. Shorted to Chewy, most likely.
Second, and much more fun, to my mind: His Grace, The Cardinal Fang. Shortened, of course, to Gracie.
My team’s weekly meetings are equal parts business and bull session, and after one discussion about politically incorrect pet names I decided that if I ever have another cat it will be white and named Cracker. Then I decided that two cats could keep each other company, so I would also get a black cat and name it Spook.
Of course, I’d never be able to take these animals to the vet, or any other public place where their names might be heard.
I don’t plan to ever have another cat, though, so feel free to use “Cracker” . . .
Looks more like a “Spritz” to me. I like the name “Ajax”, too.
Just don’t name him John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt.
That’s my name.
One of my pals named his dog Dioji. It’s pronounced dee OH jee. Like how you spell dog - D - O - G.
I thought it was funny.
I want to name my next dog
Bitey
or
Scratch
Maybe you could call him Loco. He’d probably answer to it already. Or keep him spanish. We had a dog named Miguel once. You could go with Lopez, maybe.
You could call that dog Whitey.
My wife wanted to name our dog that. I wouldn’t let her.
You should name the dog Col. Klink.
LimaBean
Dfur.
As in ‘D for’ Dog.
Or my sister’s cat’s called Elliot, which I think would be great for a dog too.
Oh! Or because he’s white, and is of German Shepherd origin, Casper.
Diablito, if the little guy ends up being a little devil (quite literally, means “Little Devil”
Angel, if he behaves himself.(Means angel)
I. Burning
He has such a sweet face! I fell in love with those big, brown eyes, too. The photo depicts him looking very calm and dignified.
How about Aragorn? Or maybe Elvish because he’s got a set of ears on him. If you’re not a LOTR fan, he could pass as a Sammy. But often the first instinct is right. If you feel Egg suits him, go with it. That’d be a cool name, I’ve never known a dog named Egg.
