Help us name the roomba!

We’ve just got a roomba 770 and it needs a name. We are looking for butler themed ones but anything you might think of is good. Thoughts? Shorter is better; while stanford bigglesworth the fourteenth is amusing, it’s far too long to use in casual reference.

Lurch!

From the Addams Family!

My favorite butler is Bunter from the Lord Peter Wimsey series. Mervyn Bunter, IIRC.

Frank or Pete, from Heinlein’s The Door into Summer. Which is, among other things, about a guy who makes a fortune by inventing a robot vacuum cleaner.

It’s not butler themed, but Doomba came to mind. Doomba the Roomba. Doctor Doomba the Roomba if you’re a comics fan.

Betty Buup
Luucy
Rosie

Jeeves is obvious, but I like it.

Ours is a model with a little edge brush thing sticking out, making it vaguely resemble the letter Q, so we named it Johnny Q.

Kryten.

Alfred!

Jarvis is next after Jeeves for obviousness. I tend to think of English butlers that go by their surnames, so how about some appropriately British (and literary) surnames?

Pevensie
Dodgson
Poppins
Belvedere
St. John (pronounced ‘Sinjin’)

Not if you’re looking for butler themed names. Jeeves was a valet.

A roomba is more of a maid than a butler, isn’t it? (Though it would be cool if you could rig one up so it could also bring you refreshing beverages.) Maybe you could dress it up in a little French maid costume and name it something like “Monique”. Or go the “Irish servant girl” route and name it “Brigid”.

Ours is Hatchibombotar after the street sweeper in the Babar books.

My mother’s is called Flora. Coz it cleans the floor.

Number 6

The minute I saw the thread title I thought “Snarfer” because it snarfs up the dirt.

Dumb, I know

You have to write that in Latverian script on top of the machine.

Wally

Another vote for the sexy maid name, because yeah, dude’s a maid, not a butler, and also because a clunky little robot called Monique is awesome to me.

This is a very cool thread for me, because I was just today thinking of starting a thread asking about Roombas as I am bloody tired of sweeping six times a day as required in my multi-kid-and-pet house. After you’ve picked a name, will you come back and tell me how it’s working out for you? Is it really effective? Is it loud? Does it scare the cat?

It sure doesn’t scare this cat!

Seven ( for Trek’s Seven of Nine character. Borg are part machine.)
