Help with CD burner

Help!

I’m at work at the moment and have brought in a CD re-writer to copy some stuff across onto CD. The CD burner is a USB compatable mitsumi with winoncd as the package to burn with.

I’ve loaded up the software but everytime i start the damned winoncd program it just reports back;

error retrieving SCSI bus information: no SCSI host adaptor found,

and from there on i can’t do a thing (i can load the program but can’t burn). I can see the CD writer in the my computer bit and can even read CDs from it. I just can’t burn to it. I’ve tried loading nero but my burner isn’t supported in the free version.

Can anybody

a, explain whats going on
b, help me!

Cheers

Sounds like the software is either

• designed for SCSI burners only and doesn’t recognize your USB burner; or

• has settings somewhere that let you specify SCSI or USB (or ATA or PCI or whatever) and those settings are currently set to SCSI, so the burner doesn’t recognize your USB burner.

Sounds like it wasn’t installed properly re the drivers needed (not necessarily your fault). First you need to un-install the software.

Read the manual to see if there is specific directory to go to for the USB drivers. Generic driver sets often have both USB and SCSI driver set directories.

GO to the Manuf’s website and see if there is are more recent USB driver sets or a more intelligent install program. Failing that check to see if WINonCD has a more recent version.

I assume your system is at least win98 and preferably WIN98SE or ME in that USB awareness was not present or otherwise very dicey in 95B and some early versions of 98.

This guy had the same problem under win 2000 so it’s not just you.

Have you ever used the USB ports before on the machine?

Are you running Windows NT? I don’t think USB is supported at all under NT.

Cheers guys

Astro: the guy that posted before (the one you mentioned) i have the EXACT same prob as that guy, I’ll be emailing him after this message and seeing if he ever got over it.

Revtim: I’ve a USB scanner on this comp and it runs fine

AHunter3: I can’t find on the software where to change between SCSI and USB, I’ll also be getting some newer drivers this aft

Thanks all again
