Help with new YouTube Channel Design?

YouTube switched over the new channel design and since I’m starting a new channel, I’ve decided to take advantage and try and make it look decent. However, I’ve looked and looked and I can’t find out how to do certain things. I know how to change the colors and upload background, but I want to put a picture and links at the top, under the normal YouTube links but above the channel info.

Here are some examples (I’m not endorsing all these channels):

Example 1

Example 2

Example 3

Example 4

I tried uploading a background with a picture at the top, but it just went behind the channel info/featured video. I need to push the channel info/featured video down. And then how do I make links? I assume all this is done with CSS but they’re not making how to do it readily accessible. Do you have to be a “partner” to get those design extras?

It appears your supposition is right:

Drat! Thanks. At least now I know.

I’m glad to see the Related Clips scroll on the same level as the video.
I hate to lose the video while trying to read down for my next clip.

I could do without ALL the backgrounds. A bigger clip window would be more useful. Backgrounds are just an annoying distraction, like on your second link.

I agree, that’s distracting. The top is too busy too, but I was just interested in the concept of a banner and links at the top. Since I’ll never be a “Partner” there’s no way I’ll be able to use that concept. Damn, I’d consider paying them a nominal fee (few bucks a month maybe) for the privilege of complete customization (and as a thank you, since I think YouTube is one of the greatest things ever to happen on the Internet).
