I was thinking of another Dire Straits song:Romeo and Juliet
“I don’t want your money honey, I want your love”.
Cant remember the name of the song, the artist, or any of the rest of te words but I am sure somone knows the one I mean.
the correct title is “Yew Cain’t Hide Yore Lyun Ahss” – at least, that’s the way it’s sung.
“Beast of Burden” – Rolling Stones
“Those Shoes” – The Eagles? Unsure of the title – “Oh, no, you can’t do that/once you’ve started wearing those shoes”
“Silver Thread and Golden Needles (Cannot Mend This Heart of Mine)” Patsy Cline, I think
“Ten Cents A Dance” – old tune, maybe from the 30s
“Dawn (Go Away I’m No Good For You)”
and I hate to mention it because it’ll bring up so many bad memories, but this is a pretty maudlin thread topic in the first place as I think the nominees demonstrate, so
“Patches”
and I’ll stop there lest I come up with something even worse.
“It Don’t Come Easy”–Ringo Starr
“She’s a Woman”–Beatles
What is it with these guys and the money/love theme?
Linda Ronstadt.
Lets go back to the fifties, and Barret Strong’s version.
Everyday I Think of Money, by the Stereophonics
And though it has nothing to do with love, Monty Python’s The Money Song needs a mention anyway.
“Silver Threads and Golden Needles” was originally done by rockabilly/country artist Wanda Jackson; it was covered in 1962 by the UK group called the Springfields (featuring a not-yet-famous Dusty Springfield) and went to #20 in the US. Ronstadt covered it in 1973.
Way back in the 70s sometime, the song “Forever in Blue Jeans” by Neil Diamond burrowed itself into my brain, and now I know why: so I could bring it up in this thread.
This one should definately be included, especially when you read the lyrics,
Pet Shop Boys - Rent
http://www.lyricsdepot.com/pet-shop-boys/rent.html
another from the Pet Shop Boys
What have I done to deserve this ?
Ashamed at my own laziness I googled and resubmit:
I want your love - Transvision Vamp
I don’t want your money honey
I want your love
I don’t want your car baby
I want your aahhh!
"Money Honey" - Elvis Presley (and others)
I said tell me baby, face to face,
How can another man take my place?
She said:
Money honey…Money honey…
Money honey, if you want to get along with me
"I Got You Babe" - Sonny and Cher
They say our love won’t pay the rent
Before it’s earned, our money’s all been spent
I guess that’s so, we don’t have a pot
But at least I’m sure of all the things we got
"Mansion on the Hill" - Hank Williams (Sr.)
Do you recall when we parted
The story to me you revealed
You said you could live without love dear
In your loveless mansion on the hill
Oh yeah, and I think you’d like the T-Bone Burnett version of **“Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Freind.”
And then of course there’s “Material Girl” - Madonna:
Some boys try and some boys lie but
I don’t let them play
Only boys who save their pennies
Make my rainy day
Jay Z- “Can I Get a…”
Los Rabanes - “Money”
Loretta Lynn - “Satin Sheets”
My mind is neglecting me… I don’t remember who did these.
“How Do You Spell Love? M O N E Y…”
And Golden Rings, a country song. Patsy Kline?
“Got My Mind Set On You”–George Harrison
But it’s gonna take money
A whole lot of spendin’ money
Love over Gold is highly underrated, I agree.
There’s always AC/DC’s Money Talks.
I didn’t see anyone mention either of these, but I’m tired so I could be wrong. so
An old country western song, “If You’ve Got the Money Honey, I Got the Time,”
and from Broadway’s Sweet Charity, “Hey Big Spender”.
