Greedy singers-- the play list.

The IPod shuffle coincidence thread reminded me of when Billy Preston’s Nothing from Nothing was immediately followed by Gwen Guthrie’s Ain’t Nothin’ Going On But The Rent and thinking, wow, both those guys sound absolutely greedy. Not flattering at all.

I tried to think about other songs that portrayed the singer as avariciously and unflatteringly as those two song but couldn’t. Two songs with greedy singers isn’t really a playlist. What other songs could I add?

Naturally I think of Money (performed by the Flying Lizards in this case).

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

And on a related note,Material Girl.

Flying Lizards, or Spinal Tap, in their initial form as The Thamesmen: Give Me Some Money: The Thamesmen - 'Gimme Some Money' - YouTube

Or The Beatles’ version Money, a personal favorite. Rockin’ song: The Beatles Money (That's What I Want) (Live) [HD] - YouTube

You’ll probably cavil because it’s a seasonal song, but in this one, Pearl Bailey asks Santa for a Five Pound Box of Money

Of course, if I argue for that one, I have to insist on Eartha Kitt with Santa Baby.

Not gonna cavil over the seasonal songs at all. Eartha is for sure being greedy. Pearl (who I never saw look so good as she does in that picture of her when she was young) seems more to wanna stop being poor. Still, avaricious all the way.

There’s the Chipmunks’ “Christmas, Don’t Be Late”

In Money Honey by the Drifters (and covered by Elvis) the singer doesn’t start out greedy but is convinced to become so by the demands of others.

*Well, I’ve learned my lesson and now I know
The sun may shine and the winds may blow.
The women may come and the women may go,
But before I say I love you so,
I want

Money, honey.
Money, honey.
Money, honey,
If you want to get along with me.*

Money for Nothing by Dire Straits?

First I look at the purse - The Contours

Silas Stingy – The Who

Gotta call foul. This is The Who singing about somebody else. The Who doesn’t look bad in this song.

I think this tune speaks more of jealousy than greed.

How about Janis Joplin’s Mercedes Benz?
mmm

ETA: Just thought of another: The Ramones, I Wanted Everything.

:smack::frowning:

Rats! I’ll have to find another song I guess, so I won’t get fouled again.

That’s Good Enough for Me by Pearl Bailey

Money by Pink Floyd

Easy Money by Billy Joel

Just what I always wanted - Mari Wilson. I know what she is trying to sing, but it never seems to come out that way - she sounds like such a grasper

Dirty Cash - Adventures of Stevie V

Hey Big Spender - Shirley Bassey

Isn’t pretty much EVERY modern song about getting dat monee? Getting that bling-bling?

“Money” from Cabaret.

Monty Python’s "The Money Song.:

“Billionaire” - Travie McCoy & Bruno Mars
“I Wanna Be Rich” - Calloway
