Greedy singers-- the play list.

Does the singer/narrator have to be greedy or are songs ABOUT greedy people okay?

How about Gimme Some Money by The Thamesmen?

I’m looking for songs that make the singer look greedy. I thought The Pipkins song fit the bill but It’s actually Gimme Dat Ding and it’s about needing a rhythm to dance. Learn something new every day!

I Want It All, Queen

David Bowie, “Star,” from the Ziggy Stardust LP:
I could do with the money
I’m so wiped out with things as they are
I’d send my photograph to my honey - and I’d c’mon like
a regular superstar

“More” from the Dick Tracy soundtrack.

That doesn’t sound materialistic or greedy though. It sounds as if the singer wants to get everything out of life he can and live it to the fullest, but it doesn’t seem necessarily to be exclusively about money.

What am I, chopped liver? See post #4.

Has anyone mentioned Aloe Blacc’s I Need a Dollar?: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nFZP8zQ5kzk

Great song.

The OP doesn’t mention money, so I’m sticking with it.

ABC- How to be a Millionaire.

Sorry

No, I think of you more along the lines of a nice juicy ribeye…sorry!

Not money, but That Don’t Impress Me Much (by Shania Twain) always struck me as annoyingly self-centered and demanding.

Oops - guess I didn’t refresh the page for a bit.

“Big Time” by Peter Gabriel?

AC/DC: “Ain’t No Fun Waiting Round to Be a Millionaire”

“Beverly Hills” by Weezer

“Money, money, money,” by Abba.

I guess satire counts, as well as songs just demanding equal treatment and respect.

In [Bon Voyage](Bon Voyage) from Candide, the Governor sings about his greed:

*I’m so rich that my life is an utter bore;
There is just not a thing that I need.
My desires are as dry as an applecore,
And my only emotion is greed.
Which is why, though I’ve nothing to spend it for,
I have swindled this gold from Candide,
Poor Candide!

But I never would swindle the humble poor,
For you can’t get a turnip to bleed.
When you swindle the rich you get so much more,
Which is why I have swindled Candide.
Oh dear, I fear
He’s going down, he’s going to drown!
Ah, poor Candide!*
