An update…
I just spoke with BMalion, who tells me his lawyer was able to work out a very satisfactory settlement with the mortgage company. The house will be put in his name, his monthly mortgage payment will be lowered to what it was before, and the foreclosure lawsuit will be dismissed and removed from his credit report. He’ll be able to remain in his house to the end of his days (and may they be long indeed!).
He is touched and very grateful for the support of so many generous Dopers, and asked me to thank you all again.
