Here There Be Spooks (In My House, I Think!)

Last night, while playing World of Warcraft, this happened.

Out of my peripheral vision of my right eye, I “saw” a wisp of white cloth go past me in the space of about half a second. I later made myself look at my big office clock that ticks (not sweeps), saw how long a second was and “divided” it in half, and that seemed about right.

As I turned my head fully to the right, I remember first getting a surge of adrenaline followed by a shiver.

That’s it, nothing more to add about the experience except that the lady who occupied the house and died here, was considered well-loved and she and her politician husband were “pillars” of the community.

Dondra was related to these folks by marriage (her niece married into the family), and tells me that at the end there wasn’t anything unresolved which might keep her here.

This isn’t my first experience with the paranormal, either. I still “hear” my German mother calling me by my German nickname -Ati- (short for Arthur, my first name) when I’m here by myself. She had a very distinctive way of calling me, sounding out that “A” (ah), just a beat longer than you or I would.

Also, as I have written here before, I still dream about both my Mom and Dad, and those dreams are very vivid to the point of them interacting with me doing stuff that’s going on now, 14 and 16 years after each of their deaths. She’s dressed in an evening gown and he in his Army dress blues, except the one time where I dreamed I was watching my Dad plowing with our old white mule, our beloved “Mr. Ed”. Then he had on overalls as he gee’d and hawed.

Those of you who’ve known me for some time, know that I loved them both very much and I am wondering if maybe it’s that love which is causing them to show up in my dreams, which are very calming, I might add.

So tell me, am I a bit of a medium or still just a large, as these don’t seem to be major goings-on with evil intent?

Thanks

Q

Well at least you know it wasn’t a ghost, because they don’t exist.

Thanks.

Is there a window or a mirror near?

A car passing by can create moving reflections that can be quite alarming.

Nothing like that, Bos’. I’ll make a picture approximating the time and place. Would that be okay?

Also, it’s totally okay if or not this is happening. I’m just glad I have my Dopers keeping an open mind about it…

Hang on… I need to wait till 7:45.

Look guys, godammit! I am NOT in the habit of pulling shit like this just to get you to answer my posts.

So please try to hang with me on this.

Thanks

To Bo’z:

Sorry. I answered wrong. Yes there IS an open window here in this room and it faces the back of my screen.

What I just now answered Bo’z isn’t meant to take away the way I felt, okay.

It’s right now 5:04 pm Eastern Time, and I asked D to be ready to take a shot over my shoulder as I sit here.

WTF, right? Who’s it gonna hurt?

Thanks

Q

Plus, it’s a “multi-informational” thread/post which I had hoped would be taken more seriously, if y’all don’t mind me saying so.

Thanks

If it makes you feel any better, Quasi, the Other Shoe and I are about the most hard-boiled realists around, and we’ve given up on explaining the sounds we hear in our current (old-ass) house rationally. The sounds are now simply referred to as The House Ghost. They often sound like far-away staticky music, or a distant TV set … when every electronic in the house is turned off, and if you step outside no neighbor sounds are to be heard anywhere.

A while back, a friend of ours was crashing on our couch for a while. One day while I was out Mr. Horseshoe casually mentioned The House Ghost to him, and told me later that tears came to the guy’s eyes. Poor fellow thought he’d been losing his mind.

The most rational half-assed explanation we can cook up is that there must be a crossed wire in the walls. Somewhere. Or something like that.

Anyway, if it’s a benevolent or benign feeling that comes with the white whisp that you see, or if you’re having calming dreams about loved ones long gone, I can’t see the harm. Some things aren’t to be explained or understood.

Once when my Step…the Daughter of my Ex, the Evile Mrs. Plant…was traveling between Little Rock and Boston, I saw Death through the window in the kitchen door. Black robe, skull face, the whole bit. I knew that was silly, so I looked up again and did not see him.

If you see him again (if?), ask him to say “Hi” to Pterry for me, willya?

Actually, my list is quite long.
Who is Pterry, and what’s in it for me?

I believe you saw something - don’t know if it was a ghost or not though. I saw a ghost (or something) once when I was 13 but don’t like to mention it due to the likelihood of being ridiculed.

You shouldn’t be reluctant to talk about anything at all on this message board - ever.

I know I felt-saw something, and I’ll try to recreate it on the same night next week and be ready with a camera this time.

Yes, I know I may be full of shit, but what if I’m not?

What if I’m , as many folks seem to be with hypnosis, just wide open to that stuff?

Thank you. I do find myself looking forward to the Mom and Dad dreams a lot, and I think about them being there waiting when I take my final bow. The dreams are that vivid to me. They don’t haunt if they’re welcome.

Q

I believe you saw and felt something because I have had several experiences myself. I don’t believe it was a ghost of a dead relative but rather spirit beings that impersonate departed loved ones. They are not something to pursue. Ignore them.

If you are right we will all be kept quite busy re-writing the rules of physics.

I’ve had similar situations as you and I can’t determine whether they are real or imagined. So I don’t.

As far as parents, my dad died 27 years ago and turns up all of the time in my most vivid dreams. He’s helped me fix a few problems and actually come up with some interesting points of view. I honestly “feel” more of his presence even though I admit that I could just be projecting a “what would dad do” mentality back on myself.

The funniest part about the dreams is that I’ve become wary of reminding him that he’s dead. It really pisses him off and he usually throws it back on me by saying something like, “Way to go, Knucklehead! Now I have to go!”. and then he disappears. So I try to not bring up the fact that he’s dead when I realize it half way into the dream.

Surely not *all *of us.

Had one in Kentucky. He walked on down the hall, which was hardwood. I thought the whole thing was a bit wacked until my father complained that he heard it too. My mother put down carpet in the hall and I yelled “You killed the ghost!”
