Okay, it was a shootout during a burglary, and the suspect was killed and two officers were injured, but that it happened at one of the biggest gun stores in the U.S. - I mean, wouldn’t that be the safest place on earth? (snark) This was in Smyrna, Georgia.
Go figure.
Idiots try to rob or shoplift gun stores with amazing regularity. Usually they’re confronted by armed clerks & back down.
But I’m sure I’ve read of a few getting shot in the process.
An absolute classic Darwin Award came from an idiot attempting to rob a gun store. With a police patrol car parked right in front of it. With a uniformed police officer in the store.

Last year a suicidal fellow went to a large sporting goods store in Eden Prairie that has a big gun section. He asked to see a pistol and when the clerk gave it to him he ran off with it to another section of the store, loaded a bullet in it that he had in his pocket, and shot himself.
