I know this is obvious, like saying “If you feel cold then put some clothes on”, but for those who want to display your location - put it in your sig, there’s more room there and you can use code.
I have only just found the customised layout of SDMB (choose ‘straight dope’ from the dropdown at the bottom) Great job all involved!
Please note that displaying sigs adds to the load on the servers. Since the current config displays sigs by default, we have not warned anyone about the overuse of sigs.
While the idea of adding your location to the sig line is a good one, please realize that the current config is only temporary. If you wish to add your location to the sig line, please refrain from displaying your sig with every post.

Just wondering, will the location likely be coming back?
I’ve had the location in my .sig since the conversion.

Okay, enough of that.
Some time in the last day or so, the tech people added the location to the data area of the posts. Clearly, they are hard at work behind the scenes.
Data area?
If you use the drop-down at the bottom to choose Straight Dope Message Board vBulletin 3 style, then you get the location. But you also go back to the narrow format introduced when we first upgraded.
The location field disappeared again. Apparently the growing pains are pretty bad this time.
