Just wondering. It’s usually quite telling about a poster and I sort of miss it.
I’m probably dense, but I guess I’m missing something.

I think he means that thng to the right of a post that told where the poster said he/she was from.
TheMadHun, Lord is talking about Each Posters’ Location. Before the board changed, every poster had information displayed under his name. Among the information was Post Count, Join Date, Status (ie. Member, Moderator…) and also Location.
A poster’s location really is “quite telling” about him. If the poster’s grammar and spelling are shot to hell and his Location says “Japan”, you can assume that English is not his/her first language. Or if the location says “Etheopia”, then that says something itself. Though you’re not quite sure if the poster is a mission worker or with Red Cross or the likes… but he/she DOES have internet in Ethiopia.
Also, location has even been Navy Vessels like USS Eisenhower and such. That tells something right there. Or when people do not put their actual location, but instead try to make a joke. You can tell if they’re a pretty funny person, or just lame…
Or others put a location down that might say something about them that No One probably understands anyway. Like my Location is set as “17SPU78559637” or something close to that.
For those who might recognize it, it shows I am using a grid coordinate from a Military UTM type map. It’s kinda like using Latitude and Longitude (People use those coordinates on their Location too) Those who might have gone a step further to find out what was at that particular 10m square would have found it to be the Location of the Army’s Colonel Rowe Training Site at Camp MacKall – The home to Special Forces Selection and several subsequent phases of Special Forces training. In my opinion, the absolute worst place on Earth. A Freaking Gateway to Hell !!
So that kind of says something about me. . .
Location says something about the poster. Like a good User Name or Vanity license plate. I wanted my license plate to be MSO4, but it is freakin taken. Damnit!!
One more voice in the abyss to bring back the locations. Mine says 13.2" above sea level which only has meaning to the Bugnortons and the IOP zoning appeals board, but it’s our location dammit and I (personally) agree that they can be fun, telling and/or informative.
By the way, this is the sig line that has been arbitrarily asssigned to me by the new SDMB. I’ve tried to disable it, I’ve never personally entered it; although I do heartily endorse the sentiment, so maybe the SDMB powers that be (higher than me) have determined that this IS my sig and I should accept those things which I cannot change, etc.
I liked the locations as shown before. For one thing, as has been said, they said something about the poster when they were in humourous vein. But the ones showing geographic position gave the board an international feel.
I hope they do come back eventually.
