Why don't some people have location tags?

.

?

Like who, Guests? If so, then all they have is their join date (month and year) showing. All other info is hidden unless you visit the user’s profile.

Ah, so it’s all in the profile? Interesting. Why is it that it’s not displayed by their posts, if I might ask?

Actually I have seen a few Members with post counts, but no location.

ETA: I just did it myself by editing my User CP to empty my location field. I’ll put it back later on.

If you don’t enter a location in your User CP, there won’t be any location tag showing up.

Also, this is a test post, since there seems to be some sort of problem…

EDIT: Strange, so you can post new posts, but they only show up within the threads, not in any of the overview pages… anybody else getting this?

I’ve opened a thread to ask about this, which naturally now doesn’t appear. :smack: I wonder if it’s gonna stay hidden forever… (And I just now noticed that the recent replies don’t appear in the Topic Review either.)

That’s the way Guests were set up when the board went PTP. I can’t recall off-hand whether it’s the plan to keep it that way.

Thanks for that. I hadn’t noticed. Does anyone recall whether the location field showed when it was empty before the upgrade? I think it did, but again, I probably wasn’t paying much attention to it.

I’m thinking of people who left in good standing years ago. For example, I know gum had a helpful Location tag, and I recently read a thread where her post made no sense if you didn’t know she was from Holland–and there was no Location tag there. That’s what got me thinking of it.

I’m pretty darn sure it did.

Yes, it did, with the word “Location:” and a blank space.

I’m going to put my location back now; I like living in The Obamaburbs–NW of Chicago.

I’m still a Charter Member and have no location field. I don’t care about my post count, it’d be nice if I (and everyone else) could show my location.

You’re Charter Membership wasn’t renewed this year, so you reverted back to being a Guest. At this point the location field doesn’t show for Guests, so the lack of a field is appropriate in this case.

I wasn’t a guest until I brought attention to having the Charter Member title. Weird.

I still think something as simple and beneficial as location tags should be allowed for all members. Is there any reason they’re not other than “we decided it would be this way when we went public again”?
