I am NOT defending MOL in ANY way whatsoever (I read the thread in question just going ‘huh?’), but my best friend who grew up in a secluded West Virginia town and who doesn’t have a racist or non-sweet bone in her body once made a comment about a ‘colored girl’ that she went to school with. I about fell off of my chair because I have never in my entire life heard anyone use that word. Turns out that was just the word she’d grown up hearing and she’d never heard otherwise. So depending on where MOL grew up, that word may still be in use.

My opinion of music is certainly not limited, and I find it insulting that you would assume anyone’s opinion regarding music is limited due to age, rather than ignorance.

Okay, I submit that along with your age comes a certain amount of ignorance. Why? Simple, your experience is limited, you haven’t been on the planet a long time compared to someone that’s twice your age. Your opinion of music may not be limited buy your experience of music more than likely is, unless of course you are the rare person that has access to a diverse musical library and you’ve been listening to all kinds of stuff i.e. all genres from various time periods i.e. 50’s - now, for the last 18 years. If that’s true, then what I’m saying doesn’t apply to you.

I don’t think you are being fair with your statements. It seems like you are assuming that everyone in an age bracket has similar musical knowledge. This is not true. This is “ageism”. I don’t care how old someone is, if all they have ever listened to is country, then I am not going to listen to whatever they have to say about rap. Ignorance is ignorance, it’s not exclusive to a certain age. Not everyone listens to all types of music either. Experience is also limited to a variety of other factors that have nothing to do with age.

A person’s opinion on what makes good music is as equal to anyone else’s opinion on what makes good music. Just because you are older than her, doesn’t mean your musical taste is any better.

As for “MeanOldLady”, I don’t think her age is any excuse.
