Heritage? Nah, just hate.

Seriously, anyone who defends confederate statues, the confederate flag, and the ‘lost cause’ is a fucking racist.

The end.

I believe I’ll take a bold stance here and chime in with “Fuck Robert E. Lee”.

Everything that honors the confederacy needs to be erased. That includes the names of Fort Bragg, Fort Benning, and every other base named for traitor scum.

…and Traveller, the horse he rode in on.

I’m not in favor of erasing history, but I am in favor of putting it in museums instead of in places of honor such as town squares or public parks.

Museums–at least the reputable ones–do a good job of putting things in perspective.

Bold. From where do you summon such courage?

I liked the Richard Adams book about Traveller.

I’ve always wondered: why does the US Army name some of its bases after traitors and enemies of the Republic?

The North pardoned almost all those same traitors and then let them return to power through coercion and terrorism.

The why is complicated. Racism. Misguided haste for reunion. But the end result was to downplay the whole treason thing, emphasize unity, and return confederates to power in the South where they proceeded to glorify the confederacy for many decades after.

Obviously, lots of them still do.

Gosh, is it that time again already? <sets watch>

It’s always that time.

Whenever there’s somebody out there waving a confederate flag, it’s that time.

I can defend Robert E. Lee. He was born in 1807. Sure, he was a racist and a defender of slavery. But he grew up in a society that was racist and defended slavery.

It’s 2017. Everyone knows better now. Anyone waving a confederate flag is not only a racist but they’re somebody who chose to be a racist.

Someone posted somewhere else that if it was a protest about heritage where were the museum curators and historians ? this “demonstration” was never about historical preservation… or not of the scholastic type anyways

He also was a high ranking US Army officer who violated his oath and fought against his country. In other words, the very definition of a traitor.

“Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.”
Yup. treason.

It is telling that Nazi flags were being waved alongside the Confederate flags.

No one can be both a Nazi and a loyal American.

Eh, well, fuck him anyway. I’ll give Traveller a pass, though. It’s not like he asked to carry that prick around.

And furthermore, is in a really really bad state of denial about surrender.

"I see your true colors … "

It’s not that complicated. To prevent long term animosity reconciliation was necessary. That meant not holding onto long term grudges. It seems to take longer than expected?
