You are correct, OJ did lose the civil trial so at least OJ had to pay a lot for his crime, but there was no jail time there.
However, the relentless efforts by the Father of one of the victims in the civil trial then made OJ to look for more revenue that led to his attempted armed robbery of his memorabilia that he thought he still had the rights for it.
Leading to his prison time for that crime.
