And he did just what he’d done every time he’s shot at… crap himself and wait for someone else to stop the shooting. Face it, Ando isn’t the guy you want to have your back in a fight. I can crap myself just fine, thanks.
Like I said, it wasn’t the best plan. Actually, I can only think of one instance where one of Matt’s plan went like he wanted, and that was when he and Daphne went up against Fear Guy.
Actually, I like it. It keeps him from getting too powerful. Now, the Bad Guy (Sylar) is the toughest out there, and that can make for more interesting stories.
What, why? thats the best thing thats happened to the show in three seasons. Overpowered superheroes are boring, Peter was practically a god before now instead of making him stupid so he doesn’t solve everything in 3 seconds flat he has to use powers smartly, thats a great change.
That’s not a problem with the character, that’s a problem with the writing. (and, possibly, with the sfx budget)
If overpowered superheroes were boring, we’d have Superman back to his old timey power levels.
I find lowballing Peter’s powers to be a poor choice, as well… because I think it was done out of pandering to whining from the fans. I have an aversion to rewarding whining. And frankly, I think that the fans’ tastes suck. It is a move to make Heroes more bland. Not a good direction.
Theres really no way to write around a good guy who can’t die, can teleport at will and go back in time. Superman was balanced by giving every single petty criminal access to kryptonite, and still he is pretty damn boring.
In this case the fans were right on the money, all the cool bad guys of the past couple seasons like fear guy or puppet master were completely wasted because the good guys were too powerful, i will be sorely dissapointed if Hiro gains the full range of his powers back.
I agree with this, and the only rationalization I can come up with is that only Hiro saw the future events, and only said, “You killed me.” Yet another case of characters being vague when specifics would help.
I don’t agree. I really don’t agree. I think the fans are fixated on blaming “Peter is too powerful” for problems that are actually caused by poor writing.
Also, and again, fear guy and puppet master were not wasted because the good guys were too powerful. Heck, Peter barely faced them at all, and not that I recall before he lost his powers; I don’t think Hiro ever met them. Those villains were wasted because of bad writing. Again. The writers didn’t do anything with fear guy, and puppet master showed some promise initially, but then got taken out like a chump by Sylar.
And I suspect this season will end with Ando zapping Hiro’s powers back enough for them to do a time-travel reset. One comic trope they’ve gotten down pat is “no lasting changes to the status quo”.
The fact that Ando is a comic book geek makes it MORE preposterous that he doesn’t want to try using his powers. He’s a comic book geek! He’s spent his entire life dreaming of having super powers, how he would use super powers if he had them, etc. There’s no way he wouldn’t be juicing up EVERYONE just to see what happens.
This has some potential to be better than the past 1.5 seasons, but still is carrying around an awful lot of stupid, particular Daphne’s death. And does anyone even remotely care about Claire any more?
Im certainly not about to defend the writing on the show but keep in mind that “bad writing” and “Peter is too powerful” aren’t mutually exclusive problems.
Because this show is about heroes, I keep looking at it through the lens of tradition, time-honored mythology. To whittle down the hero myth alarmingly, it goes something like this. Hero goes on a noble quest. Meets mentor(s), gets valuable wisdom. Hero faces, survives trials. Hero is (very nearly) destroyed, and wanders powerless in wilderness. Comes back a tragically changed hero, and prevails.
With a whole passel of heroes, several characters are going through the same myth cycle.
The villian’s path is also somewhat predictable. This week the villian reluctantly took on a not-too-bright acolyte. Heat-boy might be killed after he takes Sylar to his “pa”:dubious:, but more likely he’ll end up doing something stupid and/or noble to trip up Sylar in a big way. The kid probably will die in that act.
Claire’s path has been very tricky up to now. I think her journey through the wilderness is about to begin. Remember, this thing started out with, “Save the cheerleader, save the world.”
If I were to assume that Nerf Peter is now smarter, then the plan seemed to be to be able to get close enough to Nathan to get his flying powers. I don’t think he thought he’d talk sense into Nathan, and I think he and Tracy would assume that Nathan wouldn’t come alone. Getting Nathan’s flying powers was the goal, and it worked.
Count me as another that thinks that the Nerfing of Peter is a GOOD thing. Superman is BORING. The whole point, I thought, of robbing Peter of his powers in the previous storyline was to show him how to be a hero WITHOUT powers. Let him show what he learned now.
Wait, Ando’s a comic book geek? I thought it was Hiro and Ando just benignly tolerated his friend’s geekiness. He seems vaguely familiar with comics and sci-fi, but not at all to the point where I’d call him a geek or expect him to think like one.
And I find Superman insufferably boring, so I’m quite happy with Peter’s weakened state.
The cool thing about Peter’s downgrade is they could always upgrade it later as needed. Ando could soup him up to handle multiple powers, or when he confronts Sylar Peter takes all his powers at once, or maybe later on Peter can cycle through powers but it takes lots of concentration so he’ll never become Uber-Peter again.
I’m really surprised Speed Girl bought it. I won’t be surprised if she really didn’t.
It’s not that I think that resetting Peter is a bad thing, it’s that resetting Peter without fixing the underlying problem (the writing, the plotting, and characterization are not good), is going to end up with the same mess and there will be fewer cool SFX moments to make up for it.
Thats actually kind of the point, Peter COULDN’T face any more bad guys because he’d just become even more powerful. The show might as well be canceled if he ever met puppet master.
Peter could’ve easily faced either the fear guy or the puppet master. For the former, he already had superstrength, and since that guy relied on terror for his powers, he’d’ve probably been trying to use them on someone other than Peter, anyway. For the latter, Peter has been established as having too strict of a moral code to have actually used the power – particularly when he could just use telekinesis to the same effect.
Adding either of those powers to his repertoire would not have changed anything. The problem was – and still is – that the writers wouldn’t have found some way to make the confrontation interesting.
