Heroes 12/15/08 "Duality" or maybe it's "Duel" (spoilers)

Okay, I was going to say something pithy and snide, as has been my wont, while we wait for this last episode (for a while) to start.

But instead, I’m posting this link to TV.com so we all can mock this really stupid shot of Matt.

Seriously. What the heck is up with that?

We keep getting different titles for this episode. My TV Guide lists it as “Duality”. Other places say Duel.

I guess we’ll see in a few minutes.

Huh. Just checked DirecTV for the title, and… it doesn’t list one. Of course, whoever writes their guide blurbs for Heroes had obviously been smoking crack earlier this season, so…

(even worse, I accidentally flipped on only to find the Sandra Lee Holiday Special. ack. nothing Heroes-related could hurt my poor brain worse.)

Oooh! ooh! I have $10 on nuts caught in the paper uptake on a laser printer!

So, I guess what we get tonight is 20% character development, 60% resolution of whatever the hell they’ve been up to this chapter, and 20% setup for Fugitives. Anticipate fewer naked guys than previous 2 episodes. The Matt-Ando-Daphne team will pick up the burden of stupid from Peter then go try to rescue Hiro from the wilds of 1992. Sylar will continue to be untroubled by any law enforcement interest in his multiple murder sprees. My big mystery-Mohinder: acne cure forthcoming?

Ooh-Sylar v/o!

Cripes. The Heroes intro gives the episode as “Duel”. Then DirecTV’s crack smoker labels the blurb: “Duality”.

It’s Dual, which is a nice middle.

Wow, they’ve killed a few people so far. I think they are just deciding Season 3 has sucked and are killing off characters from this year.

Black guy who thrives on fear? Freeze!

Creepy Guy who controls people? Nose bleed!

Yeah, but … Sylar?!
Or … did they?

President Worf!

Eh. Last week was better.

I’m guessing now: Ando’s ability will end up jumpstarting Hiro’s lost powers. And what Hiro saw in the future was Ando boosting him to jump back and save the world.

Also, to continue last week’s time-travel discussion: once again, turns out the past is immutable. Hiro in the past ended up splitting the formula in two – just as it was when he first saw it. No net change in the past.

President Worf makes me all warm n happy!

I doubt it. They know one of the biggest problems with the series was Hiro and Peter being too powerful. I doubt they will leave Hiro powerless but hes not going back to “master of time and space” and Peter won’t go back to “my only weakness is that my stupidity knows no bounds”. I loved this episode, i was sad to see Nox go though, he was a good bad guy without being overpowered.

Okay, all the problems with this season were worth it just for that scene with Tracy and Hiro.

Ando was pretty excited about getting a power but I don’t think he had time to think “Hey wait, my power is to make other people more powerful? What the hell kind of lame ass power is that?”

Boy, quite the body count in this one. I think we can assume that Sylar is not really truly dead, because if someone pulls that thingy* out of his crispy fried corpse he might be able to come back again.

*What did Claire jab into his head?

The chunk of broken glass that was stuck in her shoulder after crashing trough the bullet proof window. I would imagine that would be it for Sylar but i guess the door is always open for his return.

Hell, at this point, if they buried his mangled corpse and sealed it in concrete, I’d expect them to eventually find an empty coffin in a pile of gravel.

It looks to me like Peter only got his base power back, not all the ones he’s discovered.
So how many powers did he get from people who are dead?
We’ve got:
Nikki
Elle
Linderman
Deveaux (maybe)
D.L.
Isaac (unless Usutsu is really back)
Hiro (no powers, for now)
Claude (disappeared)
Ted

Anyone else?

Of course, one actor from each Star Trek franchise will now appear. Next season, Kate Mulgrew has the power of accounting!

Y’know, as I was watching Sylar play mindgames with his prisoners in order to prove some point about morality, I was thinking “I feel like I saw this before.”

As far as i know Peter never had Lindermans healing power. I guess we can add Sylars TK to the list? i assume thats who he got that from.

He probably had it and never knew it.

I don’t buy that Hiro could have possibly extricated himself from that flag pole.

Daphne’s time travel also feels like a big stretch, even in this fictional world with super heroes. If running faster than the speed of light lets her go back in time, how does she fast forward back to the present? Not to mention that she’ll need to coordinate so that she will end up at the both the right place and the right time when she stops running.

I don’t recall Peter and Linderman ever interacting with each other. Yeah Daphnes time travel was pretty silly, and when Hiro looked up it didn’t look like there would be any way for him to get back up there.
