I have got ‘Heroes of Might and Magic 3’ in all 3 incarnations (Shadow of Death being the latest).
I’ve loaded and played some of the accompanying campaigns
I tried to simply run the program. The ‘Campaign Editor’ title box appeared and apparently loaded everything.
I got a campaign map, divided into segments, each of which looked like one of the 12 expected Heroes game maps. (It’s the story of a rebel slave rising to glory…).
But I don’t know what to do next!
Clicking on the campaign map just gives a title.
Using ‘open’ in the menu of the campaign map gave a message that the game maps were missing. (But I’m sure I downloaded everything.)
I assume you’re talking about “Troglodyte Rebellion”, since it has the 12 maps you mentioned. I just downloaded it and tried it myself to verify it works. Here is the right way to do it:
download the .zip file from the website
unzip the .zip file to your HOMM3 /maps directory
run the HOMM3 game as usual
select “New Game”
select “Campaign”
select “Custom”
pick “Troglodyte Rebellion”
Then you’re pretty much set. From your post, it looks like you tried to click on the campaign file itself, which opens up the Campaign Editor, not the game, and that’s why it wasn’t working for you. Run the game .exe, and load it that way.
please feel free to use any of these in your sig line:
