http://www.aeyrie.net/coh/ – All badges and plaques. Shortly it’ll have direct maps to the badge/plaque locations. Some are very vague because nobody has them (some Accolades) or it is hard to pin down an exact number (influence earning).
OK…nice…but it still doesn’t say how to get a lot of them. For instance:
Badge: Secret Admirer
Description: War Witch shares this apartment with her roommate Apex. The duo fights crime on a daily basis – when they are not arguing that is.
Acquired: 462yds S of Copper District Waypoint, by light pole in front of building
on S side of street
I went there…nothing is there. Is there a mission I have to sign up for first? Other conditions (time of day, min. level.) It’s just still confusing to me. And I still would like to know what the Hell that ‘Unkown’ badge is I’m apparantly 25% towards completing.
Oh, another quick (technical) question:
Is there any way to NOT have my monitor automatically switch to 60 Hz when I start the game? I always have to alt-tab out, click the ‘show desktop’ button, right click, and go through the whole process. And since CoH sucks up a lot of RAM, this sometimes takes a while.
Well it as of now (before maps) gives you two ways of locating them: using the /loc (coordinates in N/S, Vertical, E/W I believe – type /loc or bind it to a key or whatever in game, and it gives you the coordinates of your character – walk around and spam it, and then you can get to the general vicinity of the listed /loc of the badge. Or, as in the part you described, you can bring up your map, click to select the waypoint marker, go there, then walk in the correct direction for the correct distance. If you get to the distance and direction approximately, you can then spam the /loc, or circumscribe an arc to get it. Just walking in the general vicinity of exploratory badges works.
The /loc on ANY site can be outdated now, however, due to faulty (forgetting negative signs, basically, or inverting numbers) reporting by heroes, and other heroes not perfectly double-checking (it’s a lot of info to parse). That and the devs keep moving some around a little it seems.
And yes, for your first badge/plaque runthrough, it can be very irritating to find them. You can’t see the badges on the ground from any real distance, and the plaques are often wallmounted and the same color as their background. (For the Rikti Crash Site plaque, I spent about 5 minutes within 10 yards of it, unable to see it…gah.)
http://coh.artphobia.net/ also has badge information for all badges. They’re sharing information for most now, this one will never have maps, and I don’t like its descriptions for the tourism badges, but it’s easier navigated and a bit more up to date on the achievement/accolade/etc. badges.
Some badges and plaques are bugged, such as Clockstopper and NemesisSeizesControl3. What data is given was correct, but things have been moved or busted in Live. Some badges we are not sure of what it is, such as Zookeeper.
If you’re on Virtue, I can get you to any badge from tourism or history if you can enter the zone, and get you there perfectly safely. Just look around for Megs or Drone 47303, the ones I’m playing most often on lately. I visit some badges and plaques in a few zones every day just to reinforce where they are. I’m not great at verbal descriptions of where they are, but if you ask, as soon as I can I can run over and show you. You don’t need travel powers either, as 303 can Group Fly.
I’m an idiot… Actually, I’m a horrible typist.
I created a character, The Hidden Mouse, the other day. After two days of level grinding, I noticed I had mistyped his name. I spelt his name capitol H, capitol I. Now it looks like it’s spelt capitol H, lowercase L.
Is there anyway to get that captiol I changed into a lowercase? I’ve put two days of leveling into this guy, and really have no desire to restart him to fix a minor typo, but a typo which could possibly create a headache for others, if they don’t know the name is spelled with an I, not an L.
Or am I SOI?
What do you mean by bugged? Cause I’m pretty sure I’m very close to getting the Clockstopper badge (killing Clockwork, right?) Is it bugged in that it takes too many/too few then what was originally planned?
I also am wondering when the game decides to start showing your progress on a badge. For the longest time, I thought the ‘unknown’ badge I was working towards was a debt badge, but it was Tough (the lowest of the damage badges.) I looked at the badge sites, and the lowest debt badge seems to indicate that you earn it by paying off 100,000 debt. While I have not payed off that much, I have determined that, since about 1/3 into level 12 until now (2/3 into level 15) I have never been below 2000 debt, and about 60% of the time avtually over 3000, I have payed off at least 20,000 debt. Shouldn
t I have a little badge progress bar filled up 1/5 of the way? Or is this one of the badges that you don’t know your progress and you just ‘get’ when you finish it?
Overall, I think the badges are a cool idea, but I think for some people the game has now turned into a badge collection contest.
This is the best site that I have found for the badges and plaques
It has the locations marked out on the actual maps to help you get to where you need to go.
bouv, not all of the badges have progress bars, and not all of them that do have the bars are showing correctly. The Embalmed badge is sometimes not showing, sometimes only counts cadavers, sometimes abominations, and sometimes works correctly showing both. But even if it is not showing correctly, the count is being accurately recorded.
Lok
I also just looked and saw that the Clockstopper badge is not the ‘defeat X # of CW baddies’ like i thought it was. Nevermind that part of the question, then, and Lok pretty much cleared up other confusion regarding ‘broken/bugged’ badges.
I’m doing a Numina task force this weekend. Anyone 35-38, tell me in game, okay?
La Pucelle on Virtue.
Also, just /petition it, and the GM should probably be able to rename you.
Is anyone else having problems with the game crashing since the update? I never crashed until the update, and now I’ve crashed 4 or 5 times. Is there some setting I should have adjusted? Is it time for an email to customer service? Is this kind of thing normal in MMORPGs?
Head of the Hydra exploration badge bugged: Fixed in Test. Simply was not activated.
Zookeeper killcount badge bugged: Was not being awarded or counted or anything. Will be Rikti Monkeys, likely 100-200.
Clockstopper killcount badge bugged: Multiple errors. Babbage only spawns in a portal mission and in a task force. The task force one only recently on Live began giving badges. The portal one does not, and may not in the future, it is unknown. Babbage does not spawn in the wild due to a bug, but that is fixed on Test, and that should award the badge.
Multidimensional exploration badge bugged: Maybe. Nobody’s ever gotten it despite doing all the Hydra dimension missions and exploring every square inch. No dev word on it.
Shrouded exploration badge bugged: Same as above, regarding a dimension nobody’s heard of.
Several other badges may be bugged in that their killcount is a typo. The DE emanators badge seems to require a jillion emanators, 400-500, a number chosen when the emanators were prevalent everywhere as they never despawned. Presumably will be lowered after realized. The Prisoners badge seems to have an extra zero tacked on the end, you must kill hundreds and hundreds of named Prisoners to get the badge.
Hugh Jass, many people have problems after every patch it seems. If you hit the website forums, the technical problems subforum, you can probably find what is ailing you and a cure for it. Sometimes it may require a patch to fix it. It is common in MMORPGs for this to occur. Who knows, the problem may lie within XP SP2, as that seems to be the cause of many many problems in many many computer games. But you can find help in the forums. Emailing their staff may not help, as they’re extremely busy lately and you will probably get canned responses that aren’t helpful to your situation. Posting on the forum can have forum members help you out that are having the same problem, if you can’t find a dev’s thread about the issue.
As I understand it, the monster badges are set up as defeat-x badges with x=1. A dev pointed out on the official forums that the portal mission Babbage is actually Psychic Babbage, a different monster. It’s unlikely that the badge will ever be given for beating him.
(BTW, I finally got my Medic badge last night. Now I only have to full-heal Megs 285 times to get my next one. )
You can’t get CoH to stop doing this, but you can prevent it from doing so externally. I use MultiRes, which is a free utility from Entech Taiwan that lets you swap desktop resolutions and refresh rates on the fly. It sits in the system tray, and is easier to get to than the Properties window. It also has a “Lock refresh rates” option that I find essential, as it keeps my monitor at a steady 72Hz.
It’s available as a free download, takes almost no system resources and causes no problems. I think it’s essential.
72 Hz? I’m so sorry. Even 73 Hz tends to hurt my eyes (usually just on a white background, though.) I need a min. of 85. I need to get a new monitor, though, cause that’s the highest this one can do at the resolution I like (1280 x 1024)
I’ll try that program, it sounds good.
72Hz is the max my LCD panel will support. So don’t feel too sorry for me.
Hey people. Some of you will remember my main character, Harold Levin. I’m considering cancelling my account. The game was fun for a while, but it started to seem like a lot of spice with no meat once the “ooh” factor wore off. I’ve played a bit here and there, but it doesn’t seem to grab me. I liked running around with CECIL telling bad jokes and such, but I don’t know if it’s worth $15 a month.
We miss Harold.
I can’t tell you that it’s worth the money – that’s a personal decision, but I still like it. If you haven’t played in a while, and your account is still active, give it a shot. The second “issue” added a bunch of new content and options to help keep it interesting – a new low-level area called the Hollows that’s got a variety of challenges, changes to the interior decor of missions (including a great ice sliding area in at least one mission), capes, auras, the ability to “respec” or rebuild your character… lots of stuff.
Shoot a /tell to any of the CECILians – the memberlist at http://sdmb.culex/us is fairly up to date – and we’ll bring you into the fold and show you some cool stuff.
