Heroes Assemble! All City of Heroes Discussion Here

Runaround Tsoo. Snrk.

Ok, LPN, I’ll report it … grudgingly. However, that means I can exploit happily until it’s fixed, right? Right? Right? Uh, I mean, my friend can thoroughly test the parameters of the issue.

I have this weird thing going on. I’ve got my monitor set fairly bright, I’ve got my screen showing nice and white. I start CoH, it gets dark. I hit the Window key on my keyboard, everything lightens up briefly. My gamma’s at like 80 or so. I rather like the lightened up version, as I can actually see what’s going on in it, better. Why would the screen be artificially darkened? (Full screen version, not windowed)

Also, why does CoH keep setting my monitor resolution to 60 hz?

For the brightness, try setting the in-game gamma higher. I suspect that the gamma of your normal desktop is different from the game, and when you hit the Windows key, it reverts back to your standard gamma.

For the refresh rate, I dunno why it resets to 60 Hz. But it’s annoying, and there is a workaround. Get the MulitRes tool from Entech Taiwan (www.entechtaiwan.com) and install it. It lets you lock the refresh rate on your monitor, which is really nice.

Wait… Set it higher? Then the screen gets darker, right?

How do I make sure the game gamma matches my screen gamma?

I figured it was something like the gamma res, which is why I mentioned it in the post, but I’m not quite sure.

If a hypothetical Task Force requires 7 players of levels 30-35, does that mean security level or can other players be sidekicked to within that level range?

I believe that level requirements for zones and task forces are all based on security level, lno. I’m sure zones are, at any rate.

–Still not playing, but hoping to do so after making some upgrades.

So, anyone ever on the Liberty server?

I play a 33 energy/cold blaster there and am always looking for people to hunt with (or help out when I can). /t Kid Eternity.

My weirdest thing was a week or so ago I was helping out one of my supergroup’s defenders on a mission and got a temp power, and a pretty cool one at that: it’s a teleport power that, after the tp, renders me insubstantial for a bit, then invisible, then turns off. Thing is, I still have it. I don’t use it (see below), but I was wondering if some temp powers have a Can Use x Times, if I’m inadvertantly exploiting a bug, or if it’s a magical prize that the pixie god’s of CoH have bestowed upon me for being so gosh darn heroic. Anything similar happen to anyone else?

I might just play with it tonight, see if it disappears. Usually with me, if I die (and that’s not often), it’s a “What the @#$%# was THAT?!” moment, so I can’t think of that many actually useful situations to use the power.

Still: It’s so shiny!

PS- If anyone ran into a very angry batch of lvl 33 Rikti’s in Perez Park on Liberty last night, I apologize. Never saw the ambush, but they swatted me out of sky after a mission there, and I chose to, um, strategically withdraw rather than strategically die messily. Seeing as I was with a full team and my team was somewhere else, I’m sure there must have been quite a few of them

I’m playing on Liberty, but the highest character I have is a 23 blaster.

Does anyone have links or information on the extra costume slots and where the quests start? I checked out Warcry, but I either missed it or they don’t have spoilers up for it in the main part of the site.

And for my 15th post ever…

Helping out others may not get you exp, but it can be fun.

My cold secondary powers are very useful for it. I try not to be obnoxious about it, but I use my Shiver (blast of cold air that slows mobs for a while) all the time when I see someone fighting a mob, even if they look like they’re doing okay. No one’s complained yet, though I did scare one under 10 person with it, apparently, because he thought it was an attack on him. He laughed about it, though. My other is Chilling Embrace, which affects the area close around me with slow. I use that to walk into the middle of lower level mobs so the group who wants to attack them gets an edge. These powers don’t do any damage, so no exp gets stolen from the attackers.

Whenever I’m in Atlas, I like to give out influence to lower level heroes. 9999 influence is nothing after lvl 29 or so, and again I’ve had no negative reactions to doing it. I just thought it would’ve been nice to be able to buy decent enhancements when I was under lvl 6 or so…

Still, it’s most fun, when I have a Perez mission, to head into the swamp where teams are trying to whup up on the mobs of Proteans and slow them way down for groups, and instantly slapping down anything that’s killing someone. It’s a nice break from tackling the mobs of 34 Insta-Death guys in mission; just sit in the middle of a mob of angry monsters as they slllooowly try to hit me for 1 damage

And: I have to say, just when the game was getting pretty stock, I’m now beloved in my sg (temporarily, I’m sure). Why? 'Cause I got them all killed several times. But damn if we all didn’t have a blast pushing up those particular daisies.

I took them all on my Mission From Hell. One of my contacts in Brickstown was giving me really good missions, but this one renewed my faith in the game–a four level building mission with 33 mobs of one different class after another. Devouring Earth? Check. Killed 'em. Huh… Freaks. Okay, hard but now dead. We’re invincible! Hey look at that group of Nemesis way down that hall! Everyone ready to go?.. Snipers! They have lots of snipers! RUN! Okay, lost two. Blasters counter-snipe then run away as they aggro? Eh. Lost one more. I’ll try TP foe. Missed! But here they come… Okay, that worked anyway. Ah here’s another group of Nemesis with their cool Fishbowl robot bosses. This shouldn’t be too RUN OMG RUN tank’s dead, defender’s dead, hit the nearby up elevators (remember to use the rear doors everyone!) nothing bad ever happens by the elevators EXCEPT WHEN THE MISSION PUTS A WHOLE GROUP OF CREYS RIGHT AT THE DOORS ON THE NEXT FLOOR! Everyone dead? Check.

It was a long mission, everyone died at least once and some of the lower level guys died 3 or 4 times (me? twice for a whopping 26k debt), but wow was it fun. Never had an online experience quite like it.

But I do go on, don’t I?

On Preview: RogueRacer, I think we had an 18 blaster in the mission above. Our teams usually have enough firepower and defence for a few lower level members. And usually no one dies

Gah.

Rogue, go to the costume shop in Steel (north of the gl, I believe) and talk to Serge (or whatever his name is, the guy behind the register in the back). He has a mission for you to do and you’ll be able to snag a second costume slot after you complete it. Depending on how many modifications you get, it can be pricey (based on your level, though, I heard), but it’s nice to have a change of pace…

If you’re who I think you are, hi from Sunset.

The temp power staying is a bug we know about, but as it isn’t screwing people over, I think it’s kind of low on the to-fix list.

Boy, go away for 12 days and come home to find your thread has stretched to 70 replies. Good times. Good times.

Thanks for participating in the thread, Ninja. Interesting information.

I thought being away for almost two weeks might break me of my CoH habit, but I’ve been looking forward to logging in all day. Time to go!

E-Sabbath, gamma higher means screen brighter. Try it and find a setting you like. I think I brought the gamma setting up (brighter, to the right) from the default.

Rogue, when you get the mission from Serge, watch out for the Tsoo ambush outside Icon.

In other news, CECIL had *two *task force teams yesterday. Task Force Vortex took on the Synapse TF, which lasted about 5 hours. It was fun. I had Thermocline, D-Odds had Jim Beam, and **Helaron **had Zivero. Plus we picked up some other folks. I got a Recharge Reduction SO, which was nice (and went immediately into Hasten).

I’m not sure what the name of the other TF was. Toaster, **moriah **and **Humanist **were on that one, and had some uncomplimentary things to say about their teammates. Not sure if they were able to finish it.

I really wanna do the Positron TF soon with my characters…

That’s definitely backwards. I recently adjusted my slider from 100% to 70%, moving it left, and the screen is much brighter and easier to see now.

I’ve fallen out of the CECIL roster lately. I got bored with Steppin’ Razor, my Scrapper, and deleted him. And I re-rolled First Daughter (Taser? What was I thinking??) but haven’t played her in a while.

Currently my regularly appearing characters on Virtue are:
Her Voice Burns, 14 Fire/Fire Blaster
Gamma Ray Girl, 14 Rad/Rad Defender - currently in a group called ‘The Righteous’, we’ll see how that works out
Neon Boy, 10 Emp/Electric Defender
Stegosaur, 8 Spines/Regen Scrapper

Who are the CECIL senior members who are often online and might be able to invite some of my toons? And did we ever get around to re-naming the supergroup ranks?

Me too! Let’s try to set a time (preferably a weekend) to go through it.

Gamma Ray Girl went through half of it last week, vaulting from level 12-14 pretty quickly, but a Spectral Demon Lord got caught in the ceiling, preventing us from finishing the 5th or 6th mission of Task Force Tunguska. We all petitioned, but no GM ever showed.

Weekends are good. I suspect that I could arrange a large chunk of time this Saturday evening and this Sunday during the day for such endeavors. The only question is… my scrapper, or my defender?

As would I. I’ve been looking for **Eternal Ninja ** or **Shadow Stranger ** the last couple of nights, as I think they would complement Dimsdale and Majestyc.

Bubble defender + Spine Scrapper = Good pair for “arresting” bad guys

Katana Scrapper + Ill/Kinetic Controller = Another good pair. She keeps them blinded, you knock 'em down. She shoots the transfusions as needed.

Ohhhh. See, I was expecting to organize it on one messageboard or another.

I’ve been playing my Justice-server character for the last couple evenings, and thus, not on Virtue.

I will make some time to be on Wednesday, then, barring an emergency. Just in case Spurious can make it on, and we can at least form the Task Force.

I’d like to do the Task Forces but my problem is that my on-line time is somewhat unpredictable. I’ll probably be on later Friday and Saturday though.

I have two in close to the right range; Deus X is a Tanker (Invunerability/Energy Melee) who is level 15 (which might be too high). Aitch is a Blaster (Assault Rifle/Devices) who is level 10 (which might be too low).

My others are below 10 (though I was running Drone 47313 last night and was surprised at how well he was doing; he’ll probably be my next char to hit 10).

tan, I’m told the level limits on Positron are 10-15 or 10-16 - though it’s helpful to have some folks at the top of that scale.

I’m still curious if an individual can participate in the same Task Force mission and complete it successfully with more than one team. - I asked this somewhere, and I got no reply.
