Since we’ve got new characters to look foward to, I wondered what powers people would be interested in seeing. We’ve already had most of the “common” power types; super-strength, invisibility, healing powers, and so on. Some common powers haven’t been shown yet, though; super-speed, for example. There does seem to be a point of unbelievability of powers that the show doesn’t cross, though (to some extent). Powers that I think will turn up at some point;
Electricity manipulation
Psychometry
Some form of astral projection
Weather manipulation?
The ability to command the loyalty of sea creatures?
We haven’t seen any repeats of powers so far and as new heroes show up, it will be increasingly difficult to not repeat a power. I wonder if there is anyone out there with a completely lame power like glow-in-the-dark teeth or something. They can’t all be cool.
Being nigh invulnerable. Sure, we have a super healer, but she still gets *hurt[/] I want someone like The Tick. He can be hurt, it just takes a shit-ton of damage to do it. But he still feels pain.
Either a plastic man type thing, or maybe a Thing type, uh, thing. The ability to resist crushing and to crush anything. Maybe the ability to manipulate mass media, like a CNN broadcast?
This may be an aspect of that internet-manipulating chick’s powers. I don’t recall exactly how her powers were explained but if she can manipulate electronic impulses to create instant messages and the like then radio signals may fall within her purview as well.
I’m just waiting for a super who, for whatever power he has, doesn’t look like a normal human.
The comics always play this down with some kind of ridiculous stealth, or at the very least, a total anonymity under a trenchcoat and fedora.
I think it could be interesting that somebody with a noticeable mutation would be the world-at-large’s introduction to the existence of people with powers. Bring a racism storyline to the front, if done tactfully.
It’s probably going to happen soon, because it’s just such a common trope. I imagine that when it does, the character introduction will be along the lines of Nightcrawler, with a gradual introduction in a setting like a circus freak show.
