He's Just too Marvelous (Johnny Mercer question)

I also cross-posted this in General Questions…hope I’m not breaking any rules.

I am a big fan of the songwriter Johnny Mercer, who penned such jazz standards as “Autumn Leaves,” “Skylark,” “That Old Black Magic,” “Come Rain or Come Shine,” and hundreds of others.

I am toying with the idea of forming a jazz trio that focuses on the Johnny Mercer songbook sometime in the next five years or so. My question is, can anyone recommend a Web site on the man, ideally with a complete list of the songs he wrote and lyrics?

Me doesn’t know, Chef, as I ain’t bein’ a expert on him.

But I does suggest doing a word-search on him on Google or Alta Vista.

Yes you are breaking the rules! I recommened two sites on the thread in GQ and I’m not going to post them again. However since this is now in MPSIMS I can ask how you liked the performances of Mercer standards in the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

“You CAN’T be evil. 'Cos no matter how many ‘bad’ things you do on purpose,
you MUST be doing it because you think it’s the right thing to do.”

Try www.johnnymercer.com (sorry, I don’t know how to link)

Lots of good info on Johnny and his music. I’m sure you could get lyrics and/or sheet music there.

Overall I liked them a lot. I would recommend the soundtrack to anyone seeking an introduction to the lyricist. I particularly liked Kevin Spacey’s rendition of “That Old Black Magic.”

Thank you, Eve. And thank you for the opportunity to practice not editing people’s posts.
